This isnt Computer related but sorta hardware..... What kind of speakers are good for a home based 1970 SuperScope receiver? I got 4 now.... a blown out Samsung, My Dads custom built, and 2 small boom box speakers..... I want a 7.1 or better sound system but wooden cabinet speakers, because modern ones to me are pure ugly! Cheers, Gunny

Well, for the speakers, if you want new technology with old world wood finish, Yamaha makes a range of wood finished speakers for surround systems.

Now... if you want a true 7.1 system, you'll have to do better than a circa 1970 receiver, something with an optical input, as well as (for gaming) a sound card/audio interface with optical outs.

I own a Yamaha RX-V350 receiver, with Dolby Digital, DTS and 6.1 matrix, they run for about $300 Canadian now, but you'll probably be able to find a 7.1 unit for a bit more.

What? WHAT? There is nothing wrong with the receiver..... just a bit dusty..... That baby runs Me DVD/VHS combo, TV through VHS, and PS2 with another port for imput to go!!!!!!!!!!! works fine.... I blew my biggest speaker (a samsung 4ft heigh floor speaker) with it at half volume...... It may be an antique lol.... but it kicks, All I need is speakers..... I can trim the AV wires off and plug it in if I must....! lol cheers, Gunny

PS: apart from the dust, that things a treasure  Roll Eyes Grandma gave it too me because it took up space in her basement where it sat for 10+ years.... apart from a bulb burned out on the front its the finest thing I've ever had, Cheers, Gunny

As for speakers, thats my only set back I got 3 remaining lol...... My Aunts boyfriend Runs something like it maybe better, Has like a 25 speaker set running! sounds like a movie theater if not better lol..... The receiver is 40 or 60 watts per channel, when my big speaker worked, on less then half volume explosions would shake the slider (2 rooms and a hallway away from PC) lol! yea I know...... maybe I should go modern but I need money in computer, and speakers are all I really need, Cheers, gunny

yea, I just bidded on some Fishers..... My so called way out of its age receiver still can Make people run for your enjoyment, the only thing that rivals it is my new 2.1 Sound system on the computer.... I watched lord of the rings return of the king on 3 speakers kinda loud, pretty good saying its so old.... heres an example at how my stereo setup is, on three speakers (2 old boom box speakers that are less then 40 watts) and a decent 80 watt floor speaker, I cannot go over half volume before my apartment starts to shake a bit! New ones are what, smaller maybe? I like the super tweeters, tweeters, Mid range, and Woofer! Cheers, Gunny
