Well, you may recall my thread where I was describing the infinite loop problem I had a while back.

So I bought a new vid card (GeForce FX 5500 OC), but I'm having the same problem. I had it working with Medal of Honor (and the Spearhead expansion), but any DirectX games (and DirectX fullscreen tests) crash it.

I also had a problem where it would crash as soon as I logged into my username after bootup.

I temporarily solved the problem by deleting a USB bus driver that was showing as having errors - I managed to load a flight in FS9, but had an FPS of 1.0.  Of course when I restarted my PC, XP re-installed the bus drivers.

I've re-installed/rolled back/rolled forwards the drivers for my card to no avail. I also reinstalled my mobo chipset drivers (MSI K7N2G).  Memory seems fine, CPU temperatures are normal (for an AMD AthlonXP 2200+).

Would an uninstall/reinstall of DX do any justice?

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated, I'm going through withdrawal here...

Tried the DX reinstall, no change.

Then I realized that my BIOS version is 3.1, whilst the current is 4.1.

I suppose I'll buy a floppy drive when I'm out and about tommorow and give a flash a try.

If that fails, then I'll have to do the dreaded reformat - although I'm not really concerned about having to do that, as  my HD has accumulated a lot of useless stuff, and my important stuff is backed up, I really don't fancy the idea of reinstalling xp and the updates and so forth.
