I am having Massive computer slow downs..... my system specs are in my signature. For some reason Sim City 4 is getting Laggy BAD, and I run Norton antivirus every 3 days, spyware scans every 2 days or so and defrag a lot...... and still a slow computer. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I just Restored windows XP for the 3rd time. That seemed to make to worse. Also FS2k4 gets choppy even when I run high frame rates, Cheers, Gunny

I would say it's your graphics, 64 meg just don't cut it these days, intergrated graphics are especially slow, other than that your machine seems pretty good.
Sim City 4 takes a lot of graphic power once your cities start booming, do yourself a favor and get at least a 128mb card and I would go 256 if you can swing it.

I'd also run an external antivirus check as Norton is notorious for missing stuff. Try the following.

Housecall

It takes time but it's worth it for peace of mind. It's also free.

I was thinking of a 5900 or 5950.... Maybe if I get lucky a 6800..... I know a 6800 would be perfect But I dont plan on keeping this comp for gaming for long, 8 months max prolly... after this its my dads to screw around with so I need something, but probably not the absolute best! Cheers, Gunny

Its most likely to be the gfx card bottlenecking the system. Even a regular AGP geforce 4 mx would greatly increase performence.

Gunny I would go for a 9800pro or 9800XT rather than a 5950 or the like.

Even better go for a 6600GT which go for the same price but are better still.

Hmmmmm, money is going to be a huge problemish factor..... I have seen 6600s on Ebay for cheap but they are only PCI-E.......... the AGP seem about 170 to 200+ But I dunno what my limit is as of yet....  I prefer nvidia. Cheers, Gunny
