I found this site linked on a VA's home page. Some of you may know about it already, some of you may not. The question is, why in the world would anyone want to pay hard earned money for simplates or the jeppcharts softwares when there are free resources like this? I mean really, download the plates you need, and rather than taking up space on your hard drive, burn em and print em out when you need em. I've been building quite a 3 ring binder full of these REAL WORLD plates. Also looks like the various enroute chartes are less costly than the sim-remodeled ones. Of course, I did notice that they only seem to cover the US. I haven't found a free/cheap source for worldwide charts yet.

Well, the cool thing about myairplane.com's approoach plate download is that you can download all for a single airport in a zip. LOL, I downloaded KPHL, 10 megs
I dread to download charts for a really big airport. Bet it will take an hour to download Ohare's chart zip. LOL. ain't it all cool????

Well, I have a 3 ring full of printed out plates for most of the northeastern intl airports and most of the GA airports here in PA. I never have more than an hour or 2 every so many days for flying so I am pretty much limited to what I can go to and back in that time. I don't use time compression, thats not realistic and I never layover where I fly into, I always return. Unless of course I get time to go down to Nassau, St. Thomas, San Juan, Cancuun, or if I'm really lucky, Honolulu. I don't mind leaving the plane in those places especially this time of year.
