I'm trying to create a Boeing B-17G in GMAX for Combat Flight Simulator 3  Grin But Need Help with the file hierarchy (I can not get the model to load properly Cry) has anyone done any work on the subject.
I found the Microsoft SDK on the subject just a bit too unclear  ???.

Nigel, can you explain the problem a bit more detailed?
Shouldn't be too difiicult to fix display problems.
If you get this dreaded smiley face then you model name doesn't match the name entered to the xdp.

Thanks

I'm getting nothing in game, It just Locks up.
Do i need to have all the models eliments in the "LOD" levels after the first level it appeares  (if its in "B_17G_LOD_50" do i have to put it in "B_17G_LOD_70"  through to level  "B_17G_LOD_100"), if so what do i do about key names like "bomb_bay" & "c_tire_slow" for animation in closer view levels.

Plus do i need to add UVW + mapping to GMAX shapes  before i Export then convert to .DDS & then add to the aircraft folder, just to see the basic model ?

I've got the "XDP"& "CFG" files as far as i Know about right so no smiley!

i try a basic box model then add bits till i get hit a problem

Nigel,
you have your top dummy "b_17g" and link all the LOD dummies to this one so that the LOD's are at the same level kinda like a parallel circuit.
You'd also link your cockpit_virtualx dummies to that top node dummy.

As for animations, control surfaces and tires are animated automatically by the game based on correct naming conventions as per the SDK and correct pivot rotation. Let me know if you need more info on the pivot bit.
Other animations need the correct part name and keyframe animations such as your bomb_bay and other things like f_canopy, the gear and so forth.

There should be no need to tinker with textures at all just to have a first glance at your model in the game, the blank geometry should display fine.

I would double check if you have all your references to the model correct in the airfile, aircraft.cfg and xdp, sounds like you have a typo somewhere.

Hi  thanks for the help,
i've got the top node as follows:-

b_17g (dummy #)
  b_17g_LOD_10 (dummy)
          fusage
(rest of bits you can see at this level)
  b_17g_LOD_100 (dummy)
          vertual_cockpit0 (dummy *)
                    eyepoint0 (pilot) (dummy)
                    eyepoint1 (bomber) (dummy)
       vertual_cockpit1 (dummy *)
                    gun0_l_r
                         gun0_fore_aft
                                eyepoint2 (dummy)
                                gun_grp0b0
       vertual_cockpit8 (dummy *)(tail gunner)
                    gun7_l_r
                         gun7_fore_aft
                                 eyepoint9_l_r (remote gun pivot)
                                  eyepoint9_fore_aft
                                          eyepoint9 (dummy)
                                          gun_grp0b0
b_17g_LOD_25
                (more bits of plane)
b_17g_LOD_50
                (more bits of plane)
b_17g_LOD_70
               (more bits of plane)
b_17g_LOD_90
               (even more bits of plane)

So i need to link the (dummies *) to the top node (dummy #) unlike as i have it & as seen above
meny thanks ill try that

I think i've narrowed it down to "PiLOT CAM".

When i copy from "JU_88A_4" it does not appear.

But when i Merge, i get the Double Names error and the model EXPORT seems to run okay .

BUT STILL Locks up Angry.

Do you think you could help, &  explain a "PiLOT CAM"  & whats wrong with the Views in choosing just my model.

AS A LAST RESORT I TRY USING Microsoft's  JU_88A_4 & dump my bits in to it (copyrights problem!!).

With thanks

Nigel
