A flying Penguin??

Hi,
I'd been using FS2002 for over a year on Win2000Pro, and it worked pretty reliably (for a Microsoft program!)

Then it decided that it didn't like the graphics card (Asus V7100pro) but still ran.

THEN, it started to crash to the desktop EVERY time I started to play it.  I upgraded the graphics card to a 128MB GeForce FX5200 and the error message about the graphics card dissapeared but it still crashed.

I upgraded my OS to Win XP Pro, but it still crashes.

After several un-install/re-install including removing ALL third party aircraft/gauges it still does it!
Sad
Has anybody else experianced this? Is there a patch/fix available?

Please help, I'm totally baffled that a program can run so well for a long period of time, but then decide to throw in the towel, despite upgrading my system. ???

Cheers,
SIM

Hi,

Yes the vid card drivers are current, but it used to do exactly the same thing with my V7100 64mb card.

Also upgraded to DirectX9.0 but no joy.  Sad

Well.... Are you using SP1 or 2? I assume that In the process of updating your OS that you had to re-install FS. If som Im kind of out of ideas at the minute. I may think of something later. Im sure someone will know!!

Make sure you do a complete uninstall. That was the problem for me. Uninstall FS2002, then navigate to where your it's root folder for FS2002 is, default C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002 .

If there is a Microsoft Games folder and a FS2002 folder within it, you need to delete that manually by clicking once on "Microsoft Games" and then pressing Shift+Delete. Install your game again, and tell us how it works out.

Shocked Don't delete the Microsoft Games folder if you have other M$ games installed. It's safer to delete the FS2002 folder. Only do this after uninstalling FS2002.

Managed to fly Mike Stone's C-130 around the Lyneham area for a total of 28 minutes, 5 seconds. Thought I'd cracked it then GONE, back to desktop.

Bugger. Sad

Unless I missed something, it looks like there's nothing left to check out except your hardware.  Is it possible you have an overheating problem?  Air vents blocked or a fan not working?

It's worth a look.

Doubt it's overheating, the machine should shut the it's self down if it is overheating.

I would spend £30 on FS2004, but don't want to risk it unless it does the same thing.  ???

What puzzles me is I can play CFS indefinately (I get bored before the machine packs in!)

After a bit of testing last night I have the following results:

Aircraft   Location         Duration
Gannet           Yeovilton            16 seconds
Sea Hawk       Coventry            0 (PC crash)
Draken           Meigs                  2min 40sec
Su-25             Meigs                  18 seconds
Su-25             Meigs                  26 seconds (using default settings)

Not looking good is it?  Sad

I read with interest your problem of crahing to desktop, as i have also the same problem.
Can you let me know, if you can get fs2002 back to full screen after it minimises onto the taskbar and then fly without probems?. I also was using MS2000, and my problem seems to have only started since i 'upgraded' to XP pro
