Have they taken out the tapes that describe the view of Paris to those sitting in that thing yet?

Get a monopod. It will give you the support you need and will be much easier to carry around and set up.

generally for my needs a tri-pod was the better choice, long exposures with my 300d, its really to heavy for a monopod for any length of time

A tripod will be quite a thing to lug about. And will take an age to set up. So not only will you not be able to take your camera where ever you go you also won't be able to set it up quickly for a shot.

I dont do to much of this sort of photography. My whole thing against being in public places such as this at night with the inevitable drunken brawl
And those situations i need the tripod dont really require any rush, family portraits, lightning shots and so on. However to save a long discussion over which is better, as i know both have their good and bad sides, i will say. I shall look out for a mono-pod in the new year and if i find one thats cheap enough i will buy one. That way i am covered in all situations
Now thats diplomacy
