Ok well here is my question. After playing FS9, FS 2002, ETC. Should I get CF3. I have had problems with the other MS flight sims and I was wondering if CF3 worth the trouble. Thx

Alas, CFS3 isn't known for its ease of setup on your average system! - '98 Forget it!
I get reasonable performance from my specs below, personally, I prefer CFS2 to CFS3.
I would still say go get it, especially if you find it reduced.

It worked well enough on my computer. And I had '98 and a lowly 700mhz processor. Get a good graphics card and a pile of ram and you'll be fine. Just remember that it's a bold leap into the unknown and so suffers from a few bugs. Get the no-cd patch and the CFS3.1 patch and away you go.

Just my point sir!
You get little to no probs with a 700mhz cpu, I get stutters etc etc etc with a 2600mhz CPU, 800fsb Mobo and 512 DDR 400 blah blah blah Equally, I have a friend who plays CFS3 happily with an aged Geforce 2 GTS card !
Go figure! - Enjoy it if it runs right!

Thank you for the replies. I did go and buy the game and as normal I did have my normal problems lol. But it loaded fine and I installed the patches in order as I learned from reading the different post. I was able to finish a couple of missions and learned things each time. I think I will really enjoy the game and with enough practice I am looking forward to playing on line. Thanks again for the help.

Well, I had no problems to speak of and it ran fine on my system, but I say stick with CFS2. CFS3 just plain sucks and is about as exciting as watching paint dry.

LOL DPR, silly statement, even more for a guy who should oblige hisself to a more moderate opinion, wearing that moderator hat and such, LOL.
CFS3 has flaws, shure enough, however IMO it's the best combat Sim currently available.
Not out of the box but with the many addons available.

Don't forget the CFS3 flight model is far superior too. Lots of new toys to fiddle with. Plus a lot of old parameters are much more accurate.

What Mathias says is correct. Out of the box CFS3 is nothing to write home again. But it's potential far out strips anything avaliable on todays market. And with the Groundcrew and AVhistory downloads, as well as all those 3rd party payware package jobs it is the best thing going.

CFS3 is not a patch on CFS2 IMHO. Took me a year and £1000 to get it to run right ??? I have all the good add-ons from those super chaps at AvHistory and Groundcrew and without them I'd have thrown it out the window ages ago. Since I got CFS2 back on my machine and FS9 I don't play CFS3 anymore.

Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, but the guys who have been activly working with this series since the original CFS, like Gregory AvH, Mathias GC & myself are pretty unanimous in the opinion that CFS3 is the pick of the litter.
The Mediterranean Air War development group "The Desert Rats"
http://www.medairwar.com
has many of the builders who have provided a great majority of the combat planes, effects, terrain upgrades & they have chosen CFS3 as the base for the MAW project.
We would not be putting in this kind of effort if we did not believe CFS3 has the most to offer.
As for setup & hardware expense most of the AvHistory 1% planes for CFS3 were flight & quality control tested on a AMD 1600 512MB PC-100 ram with a GForce2 MX200/32MB video card.
If you look at some of the old release note pictures you can see it did quite well.
The B-17 contrail picture early in the 'rockets' thread is also from an old machine.
Then again its true that CFS-3 like more power, the Spitfire Vc is taken on a AMD 2600 1G DDR-2100 & a FX-5600/128MB Video card. Not exactly the current hot machine but it gets the job done so any machine faster should give excellent performance.
I also don't see W-98 as an issue as I have run it on W-98, WinMe & XP-Pro all with good results.
