As the 40th anniversary is this month I thought I'd post some screenshots of my favourite aircraft.

It still amazes me that it was designed without the aid of computers, and flew routinely. How can an aircraft fly for 25 years at 15 miles high and 2000 miles per hour?

Simple - It was designed by a group of very talented and imaginative people led by Kelly Johnson and was maintained in the field by dedicated technicians who realised their part in the grand picture.

A tribute to the Skunk Works, the flight crews and the ground crews:

Pictured is the Alphasim SR-71 for FS9 and the Beale AFB is a side project of mine which is not quite ready for release yet.

I've heard that bird leaked fuel until it was airborne (the metal had to change)

Correct, when the metal would expand from heat, and the pressures action on the skins would seal it up, it would quit leaking.

very nice. good someone reminds us of the 40th anniversary. there will be a day when we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Ed and JT's record braking flight because in the near future, no one will fly higher and faster...that's for sure!  Wink

Two more shots for you!  Grin

What happened to the KC-135Q models that got converted to KC-135T, are they still in service, if so were they re-engined?

The KC-135Q did get changed to the T model and it did get re-engined. We had the Ts at Fairchild AFB.

Thanks for the comments. My Beale is not that busy as I haven't mastered the AI traffic. Its proving more complicated than I thought!! I'm planning on adding some start carts to the hangars as well as nightlighting to the ramp.
