Well, I thought I'd pick up the Super Corsair for a bit more work.  It's been a couple months since I touched it, so I want to shake the dust off a bit.  Looking at it fresh, I can see some things I did before that I need to change, but now I have a lot more confidence than I did then, so I think I may be able to do it justice now...

DON'T CALL IT A 'SAIR!  Smiley

So we don't call it a 'Sair ... but not bad coming from a company that's better known for rubber airplanes and blimps ..  whudda thunk it they could actually build stuff out of metal!

Oh God, now you've got me started...   Smiley

The F2G was the ultimate Corsair.  Designed to counter enemy Kamikazee attacks, the idea behind the plane was basically an expansion on the original Corsair brainstorm; 'Put the largest engine possible on the smallest airframe possible'  Built by Goodyear under license from Vought, the F2G was and F4U with a cut down fuselage and bubble canopy.  More than this though, the engine was replaced with the Pratt & Whitney R-4360 radial that produced around 3000 hp from the factory.  The R-4360 was commonly found on bombers of that era, such as the B-29 Superfortress.  No one is sure exactly how many were built with estimates ranging from 10 to 20.  They never saw widespread production, and certainly no combat experience.  It is curious though, that while this was available for a fighter, they chose instead to produce the F4u-7, which is an (relatively) inferior plane.

This is the only flying F2G left in the world, it is owned by Robert Odegaard of Kindred, North Dakota.  There is another one in a museum, and Mr. Odegaard is rebuilding a third to airworthy status.  This is also what my plane will look like if I ever complete it...  Tongue

...

Note the small rectangular rudder under the main one.  On takeoffs and landings, this rudder was offset 12 degrees to counteract the torque effect of the massive engine.  Currently, the Odegaard F2G does not have the large intake on the top, but a more streamlined version of it that runs the entire length of the cowling.  This was replaced after the plane caught fire and burned in the 50's...

...

This example has the new intake, and has been fitted with the standard Corsair rudder.  If you're really desparate to fly one, there are several CFS2 models available, including the Odegaard F2G.  The only one I can find to work in FS9 is from AvHistory.org, but it's not very accurate.
