Does any one have any shots of the VFR scenery from Just Flight? Its just that i'm thinking of buying it for a friend and want some shots of it that aren't baised. Show its good and bad points (if any)

Thanks in advance

I've used it for a while .... but I'm not convinced ... I would recommend getting a payware mesh rather than the VFR scenery.

Stiz,

It is a great scenery and it has a terrain mesh that is compatible with it called VFR terrain which is truly one of the best meshes that there is.

eno,

There is no connection between scenery and terrain mesh unless you put the scenery on the terrain mesh.

Terrain mesh=elevations

Scenery=what you see on the elevations

Landclass= tells the scenery where to go

If I were you I would rethink your response.

Your answer could be really confusing to someone!!!

I have the Just Flight VFR Scenery for England and it's not that good.  There is no elevation at all and it runs really slow on my computer.  Oh well, it was a present so I didn't pay for it.  Wink Cheesy

I know the diffence between  Mesh and Scenery .... Have you seen the UK with the  default mesh ???
As I said ....... I'm not conviced by the VFR Scenery and I have found  that the FSTerrain mesh without the textures is more pleasing on the eye. I have run FSTerrain with and without the VFR scenery ..... I prefer it without

The fact that you know the difference still doesn't explain why you said you would recommend terrain mesh instead of the VFR scenery.

and as I said there is VFR terrain mesh available which is compatible with the VFR photoreal scenery.

The VFR scenery needs special settings in the Fs9.cfg file to really bring it out correctly.

...

It is stunning when set-up correctly.

I agree ..... that screenshot looks stunning ...... However not all of us have your knowledge or the resourses to be able to tweak and twiddle enough to get those results.
On the average machine  used by Joe Bloggs the results aren't quite as impressive. Now whilst my initial post might have been slightly misleading I still stand by my original statement, a payware mesh used with the default scenery/landclass will give a better result without the need to alter CFG files.
It will also drain less processing power which for most people is a more convincing argument.
As has been said in so many posts about how to get the best perfomance with various PC specs/ Graphics cards, software should do what it shows on the box on the recommended settings not on settings that for most people are unattainable. I have tried the VFR Scenery on my old 500mhz machine and on this machine (specs below) which is well above the recommended specs .... I'm still not convinced.
I admire the work that you do Ramsa and I have been impressed by the results you have achieved on the likes of Savas' machine. I am even considering using your services myself.  However the poster asked for good and bad points and you are in the privilaged position of being able to tweak to the Nth degree to bring out the good points....... Joe Bloggs average doesn't have that knowledge.

VFR Scenery.

The bad points ..... It doesn't run well on the minimum settings ... It takes ages to load up... Even on the recommended settings with more than adequate processing power it still fails to live up to expectations... Too much tweaking required to get even reasonable results.

cheers

I don't have that particular package...... but that being said.....

One of my complaints of most of the "photoreal" scenery stuff I have seen and tried is that it looks really great "at altitude" but down low  (under about 1000 feet)...... the lack of significant 3-d autogen is VERY noticable... and LESS realistic.

Maybe this package has it's own significant autogen.... I don't know.

best,

...............john

No this package hasn't got any autogen apart from at airports but thats defult buildings and stuff.

I heard somewhere that there was a way to add autogen to the scenery.

I got this scenery.  I think its great.  I am not worried about the lack of Autogen.  Granted it takes a bit longer to load, but the VFR scenery combind with VFRTerrain is awsome!

Yes it also looks best between 2000-6000feet I reckon.  Its great for doing VFR flights in GA aircraft over the UK though.  I love the fact that other airports are also visible due to it being Photoreal textures.  For example Sutton Bank isn't included in the game.  With these addons the 'Bank' is actually there now and you can see the airfield.  I used FSE and have created the airport there.  I love flying gliders from there  Grin

There are sites dedicated to autogen for this scenery.

If anyone wants them just let me know.

Also if anyone has or wants to get this scenery I would be glad to give you some pointers on how to set your Fs9.cfg for maximum performance.

Hi All

I love the VFR Scenery - framerates are much better than with the default MS scenery and autogen (70+ fps in this example below). For "as real as it gets" VFR navigation it is superb.

Below is the Real Air SF-260 at 6000ft over South Devon (Torquay below - heading towards the Berry Head VOR)

VFR Terrain adds even more detail.

Regards

Adam
