As we all know the Typhoon Operational Evaluation Unit 17 Sqn has had the jet for a while now. 29 Sqn are in the process of forming (to become a complete unit when moved to Coningsby next year). Anyway, that's old hat...

For those that are interested it has been announced that the first operational unit will be 3 Sqn at Coningsby - converting from the Harrier (I expect the 3 Sqn Harrier unit/aircew/aircraft will actually take a Royal Navy nameplate at Cottesmore, so it will be a case of transferring the identity), followed by XI Sqn also at Coningsby. 6 Sqn, having disbanded as a Jag unit will then reform at Leuchars around 2008 with the Typhoon...

Thats at Leuchars...

29 will be at Coningsby next year, 3 in 2006 and XI in 2007 (ok, that 12 and 13 years late Smiley ).

Gonna be a fun aeroplane to fly...

Not very far - I don't think they're being allowed off the lead yet because the naughty pilots might break it... Wink
