Is there and if so, where would I find a grid sheet to plot locations of add on gauges? Thanks

I am not aware of one except the one that is built into cfgEdit. It's free and it works great. There is no reason not to use it.
In the alternative you could extrapolate gauge positions by examining their relative positions with notepad, but this is far more cumbersome and inaccurate.

The only problem is it won't work with most FS9 gauges, since it only registers *.gau files and not XML stuff.

There is a payware version that allows you to edit xml gauges. It is a big brother of cfgedit. It is called FSPANEL STUDIO PANEL MAKER. I purchesd this some time ago and it works great. You can even make new gauges with it. It is basically a extended version of cfgedit. If you want to check it out just go to

If what I wanted, grid sheet for ploting locations of add-on gauges can't be found then I will make one or I suspect several, and upload to this web sight. I will be moving gauges and adding others to some aircraft so I'l wind up with one anyhow. I'm just so backed up with projects.... I'l keep on looking for a plotter for the day and then back to work!!! See Ya later

CFGEdit can still be used even with .xml gauges. You just won't see the gauge, only a purple outline of that gauge.
You can then start up the game, load the acft. you are working on and look at the size. Note if you need to make it bigger, smaller or moved a little.
Then exit game, go back into CFGEdit and do what you need to do. I do this all the time and very simple really.
Most of the time, the original size of the gauge that CFGEdit loads up with xml gauges IS the correct size, but on rare occasion you need to modify the size and placement a little as mentioned above.
