Hi all,

I m having a small problem that I hope some one can help me with. I want to select different parts of the aircraft, and then use select by material Id, so I can apply textures .
...
I start by selecting the left side of the fuselage then, hiding the polygons that I don’t want to texture and leaving just the area I want to texture.

...
I select the part that is visible, shade the area using f2 and set it to material Id. But when I go to unhide polygons

...
I find that the entire left side of the fuselage has being selected even when I go to select by material Id all the left side appears to be selected.

What I am doing wrong

Cheers
Rhys

first thing I sugest you do is apply a mesh select modifier. Then start selecting.

Secondly, set ur material opacity to 100%.. its a lot easier that way.

okay.. in smooth + highlights mode, check whether the polygons are in their correct colour (the material ID leaves different colours.)

Hey Rhys,

If you can give me a day or so, I will create a video showing how to properly use Material IDs and Multi Materials so you can map an object. I can't count the number of emails I've received asking for this one. Wink

Nope, no cartoon shorts. I've used up all my colored pencils and need to order more.

How about paint by numbers instead?  Roll Eyes
