I've been thinking about building some military runways in the United States for CFS2. Using GSL would be great but I don't anything about it. Could someone give me a little help.
PS: I downloaded the Papua New Guinea GSL airfields so I know it can be done, I just need to know how.

You need Martin Wrights GSL editor. You have to e-mail him and ask for it. I don't have his addy but i do rember that you have to call your e-mail: developer gsl editor.

Hi Guys
Tiger63, please ignore this if it is old news to you, but I thought I would toss it in in any event.
Martin Wright's GSL tools are for adding scenery object layouts to airfields, not for adding the airfields themselves.
You can't add airfields using Martin Wright's GSL tools.
Airfields- the runways, flatten areas, ground polys, etcs, that are useable in Free Flight and Quick Combat- are bgl based and need to be created using programs such as FSSC, Flight Simulator Scenery Creator, by Derek Leung.
What the GSL tools pack from Martin allows you to do is to populate your new airfield with scenery objects that you add directly to the CFS2 GSL (ground scenery layer) via Mission Builder.
In other words what GSL tools allow you to do is skip the process of including scenery objects layouts, based on API macros, in your add on airfield bgls. However, airfield bgls files created using programs like FSSC are still required in order to have a usable airfield.
GSL based scenery object layouts ( as opposed to bgl based scenery object layouts) also allow the objects to be destroyable- where objects layouts of API macros were not.
Hope this helps a little.
Cheers,
Chris

Thanks a lot. I have FSSC so that won't be a problem. Just curious, why didn't Martin Wright put the GSL tools on his website? Anyways I'll email him for the tools in just a second.
Thanks for the help,
Will

My reservations mainly revolve around the dread thought of a huge number of "what went wrong.." and "how do I..." mails if the tools were up as a general download.
While most people here at SOH would have no trouble with the concepts and the methods involved (and the risks) there are a lot of people out there on the WWW who wouldn`t have the same PC and CFS2 knowledge.
If it was available directly I suspect a large proportion of downloads would go to people who weren`t sure exactly what do do with it but had read about it somewhere and thought they should have it. They would either end up running it and deleting something they shouldn`t or would be mailing me for instructions.
The "ask me for a copy" method means that (hopefully) only the keener CFS2 users and designers will get the full developer set because they actually have to email rather than just click on a download link. It also acts as an incentive for scenery designers to go the "safe" route when distributing their GSL creations using the distribution tools provided in the package. It would have been just as easy to repackage the Layouts as GSL files and include the redistributable GSLMan for users to try them out then anyone who downloaded the package could use them (and remove them if required) without needing to get the developers tools as well.
On the other side of the coin I am all for letting people play around with their CFS2 as much as possible. So I will send out the developers package to anyone who mails me through my Developers Corner. Just don`t call me if CFS2 explodes.... :^)
That is what he said in a thread over at SOH (
