Apart from being a scary, very gothic etcho film (whic is also very cool) I was amazed! That lil gauge hasnt been used in YEARS! It was cool to see it resurrected like that, almost as if it had just been hibernating....
very The Others ish, like a ghost...sort of...in a "Oh my, there are people walking around in period uniform shadows in that control tower!"-esque way.

I have re worked the old gunsight and have cut and mounted the beamsplitter refelector glass and altered the light unit to give the correct image colour. With these problems sorted out i will re make a new gunsight to look a little more realistic .

Hi John,
the gunsight was more of a " can i make this and get it to work" project. Compaired to the real early type gunsight it's not that convincing to look at. Now i know it can be done and i have better detail photos i hope the new one will look better.
Thanks for the kind words though  Smiley

So Dave.......

When are you going to get into real home-made experimental aircraft?  it seems a natural for someone with your skills.  There are lots of folks building the real thing.

Hint!  Wink  Wink  Wink

Hi John,
i have often thought about doing just that, but with the simulator it's a great deal cheaper to fly. No problems with inspections, engine overhauls, take off and landing fees and no worries about storage  Grin.
I would like to get involved with restoration work though, now the kids have grown up.

And they don't have the remove you from the ground with a putty knife if you screw up the construction job on the wing mounting either, I guess  Wink.

again, I am left speechless at your amazing skill!
FANTASTIC!
Wouldn't be suprised if you get a knock on the door soon, someone (maybe even from Duxford) asking to see the work.

A small update on the new build pilots seat. All the hard stuff is now complete, all thats required now is to add the rest of the fittings and then make the sutton harness and the seat back cushion.

Dave,

Every time you post new pictures I am totally amazed.  One would swear that you found an old WWII warehouse and it was stuffed with old (but brand new) aircraft parts.

Keep the great stuff coming.  But at some point soon please try to start a new thread as a "part two" type thing or something so that you don't go over the 500K limit of photos per thread.  It is easy to do...... I certainly know that I went over in some of my early threads before I realized that there was the 500K total limit in addition to the 100 K per picture limit.

Wow Dave.... your craftsmanship is truly amazing.  I assume that you have detailed plans you found for each component?  Or did you cobble them up from some basic photos and drawings?

best,

...................john

Hi John,
most of the original stuff was made by scaling up photos, but i did receive some great help from the guys doing the Y2K project, they are  building a spitfire from the ground up to flying condition. Along with the help from them, and purchasing some drawings from another company. i am now working my way back through some of the parts that were guessed.
No problem with the new thread, will have to start Part three.
Thanks for the kind words.
