As i said in the Café, I saw a Ruslan at Maastricht airport. I promised to post some photos, well...here they are.
It was hard to shoot them as the fence was quite high and the sun wat right in front of me. IMHO, the results aren't that bad...
For the record...these were all shot with the Digital Rebel using the kitlens. Some wide angle is really helpfull when shooting a plane like this.
some reflection of the sun in the lens...love it or hate it.
Damned fence!
Some photos of the F-16's and F-104 which I also saw that day will follow later.
Raw power...the J-58.&&

It's kinda cool how the plane is almost framed by the fence. And the sun makes them all the better.

It is an AN-124, it says it right on the nose.

Good work ken. My cousin gave me a tip about fences(hes a professional photographer for the army) something about a specific distance and it wont appear, i am guessing a little closer than you were. But with a plane that size any closer isnt an option without a wide angle. I personally like the lense flare and cant wait to see some more results from your trip out.

the last one is taken with the lens against the fence, all the others are taken through a small gap it...probably made by other spotters.
thanks everybody for the replies!

Those chain-link fences can be a darned nuisance. Mind you, they're better than the 10 foot high solid monstrosities all around Gatwick these days.

Nice Bone...very nice...the cockpit, well typical Russian 6 man crew and spacious, crews quarters to the rear and upper level. The only thing I didn't like was the ladder going up to the cockpit but it is what you get used to I guess.
Again...very nice...thanks for posting it
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Hi Charlie. Nice to know some things haven't changed. I visited RAF Cranwell once. That was back in 19 canteen when I had a swim in the pool. As I recall I got my ATC swimming certificate. We were on annual camp at Swinderby just down the road. LOL
I had my first trip in a Chipmunk on that camp. 8)
I expect Swinderby is closed down now.
PS. Is the pool still there too?

Mine was at RAF Manston, December 95 I think...

Yep - It hasn't been dug up yet though, lots of gravel there apparently. The hangers are now used for antiques fares, the trade ones that cost about £75 to get in....
Charlie
... and there is still a pool at Cranners - of 60s descent I think, covered and with elevated seating and diving boards.

That's a shame.

That's the one. Just remember I beat you to it.

Mind you, this would have been back in 1958.
