Hey guys,
I bought a Sapphire ATi 9600SE a while ago and it overheated while FS 9 ran so I went out and bought a Arctic Cooling VGA silencer, it has a fan in it to cool the heat sink down, but the SE doesnt have a fan socket, nor does my motherboard, so i was wondering if theres another way? ie wiring the wires for the fan to another power source or something can anyone help?
Regards
Ben

How do you know it overheated?

If it did have you overclocked it? If you haven't overclocked it its likely the card is screwed if you were getting artifacts  Sad

If it ends up being the card is duff, next time try to avoid the SE   ATI cards.  They are particularly bad performance wise.  The SE does not mean its better than the standard 9600 in fact it means its worse  Sad  Ideally you want to aim for a card that ends in Pro or XT, i.e. 9800Pro or 9800XT, these two endings are faster than the plain 9800 for example.

Well i dont have the pocket to go buying a new graphics card mate! This one was better than onboard! I know it overheats as it stops displaying anything! the screen just goes blue, and it gets far too hot to even touch!

The 9600se is exactly half the performance of the standard 9600, and the pro is nearly twice the performance of the standard card, and the xt is nearly 3 times the performance.

Your card should not over heat if you have a fan sucking air out at the back, and the card is not over clocked.

Sounds like somthing is majorly wrong with it then!  If I had a stock card at stock speeds and it did that I would take it straight back!

If its in its warranty period still take it back and get another.  I understand if thats all you could get at the time I am more guiding you as to what to avoid next time  Grin

If its not in its warranty period then I would suggest maybe getting a card second hand.  Here is a chart that shows FS2004 fps with a Anti-Alias and Anistropic Filtering turned on (Makes sim look nicer)

...

Hope you get it sorted soon.

I really hope a fan helps solve the problem.  One thing you could try is this, take the side cover off and put a desk fan next to it and use that to blow cooler air over everything.  Least this way you will know if all it requires is extra cooling.

Hey I  go down to my local municiple dump and pick up old hardware most of it still works ok. many older pc s had procesor cooling fans that are powered by spurs from the drive power supplies, surley this kind of thing could sort out your hot bits
