I agree it might be a bit rude to hijack someone elses site, so I think we might have to do our own.  At least then, we'll have our own headaches and no one elses.

I don't mind running to host program, just give me a week to learn the software and how to set it up.

I hope we can keep this informal.  Something less rigid than a squadron or VA.  I rather just figured a bunch of friends might get together once a week and then figure what we were going to do.   Smiley

I also think we should fly whatever we want.  If we all try to fly the same plane, it'll be a pain deciding which one and if we fly all default planes, we are denying ourselves half of our hobby.  I don't know about you guys, but I have quite a few planes and in most cases, I don't get fooled by FS switching planes on me.

Most of all, ket's just follow the KISS rule; that is Keep It Simple Stupid...  Grin

Again, I'm open for the time.  I just suggested Sunday morning because it's a nice relaxed quiet time.  Personally, I am free from about 10:00 AM to 12:00 while the wife and kids go to church.  Being the Godless heathen I am, I get to stay home to uneind and prepare for the next week.  Smiley

DPR,

Yeah... I didn't want to formally "hijack" a site either... that's why I brought it up  Wink.

As to simple.... yup....no VA or Squadron for me either.

I hope to be on the WSPilots server online flying tonight (Sunday 10/23/04) after about 7:30 PM Eastern.  It is at 66.147.177.125 for the IP address.  If you get a chance....log in.  My aircraft registration# is N100JB.  I'll probably be flying on hop #11.....KEGE to somewhere about 1 hour away.

If you logon....... make sure the appropriate ports are set open both in the sim and on your firewall/ router.

best,

...................john

DPR,

Great flying with you tonight!!  My De Havilland Beaver is slow.... but reliable.

That approach into Teluride was really nice.  I took it further down valley on the downwind than you did........ wanted to have plenty of time to line up with the xwind  Wink.  Novice pilot  Wink

One gust at about 500 f AGL kicked me all around to heck.  I watched airspeed go from 60K to 100 K to 40 K in about 2 sec.

And that darn building in the middle of the runway just past the numbers was a surprise even though we had the prior "radio" contacts telling us it was there.  I am not sure how much height I gave it.  Were you in a position to see how much clearnace I actually had?  Depth perception in the sim is limited.

Anyway........ this evening was maybe a prelude to a SimV fly in or something.

best,

.................john

I hope that it was; I also enjoyed it.  That was one of the most fun approaches I have done in a while.  I loved coming around the side of that cliff and not seeing the airport until I was in the canyon.

I wasn't too thrilled with the concept of the hop.  As I uinderstand it, you get bragging rights for how many you do?  I'd rather just get together and do a bit of flying.  But then again, had it not been a hop, we wouldn't have had that particular flight...

I hope we can do it again soon.  Smiley

Jared,

Thanks for the "altitude" update.  I knew I didn't give it very much.  I didn't want to pull the nose up....cause I was too close to stall speed and the gusts could have made a mess for me.

One wonders if the M$ developemnt folks actually checked out most of the airprots before they released the product.  I found one with light poles running thru the runway once.

DPR,

The "hop list" is a series that the server host has set up.  There's like 990 flights on the list.  I suppose that some use it for "bragging rights".... but that is not how I look at it.

For me, it has resulted in flying places (like we just did) that I would not otherwise likely visit.  The one you followed me on was hop #11.  Back about hop #9ish there was a blind approach down a canyon with a major turn right before you had to hug the downslope of a hill to put it on the short grass runway with the mountain at the other end.  I did a couple of flybys figuring out how to land on that one.  Wink

Many times I log on there and just fly wherever I feel like it.  And sometimes ....usually on Saturday nights ....... they run a specific ATC flight.   Origination and destination airports is specified in advance.....we all use Teamspeak to communicate via audio.  Back when the hurricanes were in the Florida area... we did a couple flights from places like the Caman Islands into Jacksonville and Miami in "only heavies".

Anyway....... now I know that I cut the roof of that building close!

best,

...................john

Yep, I understand your concern, those winds were a little tricky especially on landing.

It's one thing to have a building on the end of the runway, but light poles? I mean a building you can stop short of, but light poles pretty much shutdown the airfield... Undecided

Hey Guys,

Count me in on flying together. I have long thought it would be fun to fly with a bunch of SimV-ers.    Grin

Sundays are good for me too. I fly on WSPilots and started that Hop List a couple weeks ago.  But I do see others just flying where they want and ignoring the hop list. Happens all the time on the different servers. Some are even set up with No hop list, just free flight for anyone.

FSHostSpy is great to have too. Run it and see what Servers are up and running, what their format is (Hop or Free Flight) IP address and who's flying and where they are at the present time. Great little program to have.

Be looking forward to seeing some of you there. I go by 526th Fireman there too. Too hard to get rid of the old name from CFS2 Squadron days.
