Someone explain to me why simviation is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo restrictive when it comes to bandwidth?

Why is this place so concerned when it comes to images? Is there a number of people here on dino up that you guys care about or something?

All the other forums get to do nice screenshot threads we don't - why. 800 pix wide... what can you show in that? How come we cant do nice stuff like this: http://www.fs2004.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=27368

I do post screenshots about twice a week at forums - I dont here becuse it is impossible to make them look good once they are small enough to upload and post. You can't even post enough to do the whole story. I can post 15 pix in a thread in my home forum and that is ok... not here - why?

Another example. EVERY FORUM ON EARTH DOES DESKTOP THREADS.

FS2004: http://www.fs2004.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=26626&st=0&#entry271399 I see a number of current/banned simviation members in this thread...

NW's october thread is up to 29 pages and 1,147 replys...

NL's is at 217 replies...

HOW COME WE CAN'T HERE?

Well I'll bet my bottom $ that whatever sites you are referring to do not do 300GB per day in bandwidth.

We have 1/2 million unique users /month & to make everything run as smoothly as possible decisions & restrictions have to be made. The forums here are a small part of what goes on at simV & such restrictions are necessary.

The forums are not a bandwidth thing - they are a processor & RAM thing. The forums use less than 1% of our bandwidth.

I'd suggest if something is very important to you you seek out a site that allows you to do just that ... & respect the reasons others sites don't  8)

Think Global. It's the world we live in.

yea, I am on a 1.5 Mbit as well, I got bored of waiting for those pics and just closed it and came back here...

Though there are restrictions... people still seem to show great stuff on the screenshot forums... so if they can... so can you.... just dont be so lazy about resizing and do it right...

Still have a nice PC but I just switched to a hella nice mac

800 x 600 pics are plenty big enough to me. I can see pretty much the same detail I can in them as larger ones.

And people who are on dial up shouldnt be forced to move on from threads with images on them. Sacrifice a little to give the greater good of all, so that everyone can enjoy the forum and screenshots.

Heck, even some of my screenshots have to be shrunk even smaller to get them within the guidelines and they still come out purdy good Tongue

Come on man, Be reasonable! You most likely get the fastest downloads here of any FS site (I know I do) and you don't get any annoying "no nodes available" messages. I accept SimV for what it is, you should too. The only thing I don't like about SimV is the fact that there are political smear ads (all from the Bush campaign, typical  Roll Eyes) all over the place, I see enough of that crap on TV, I'd like a break from it!

Chomp, the last time political ads came up, a group brought their concerns to Pete and he took care of it.  If they're showing up again (I haven't had them since Pete got rid of them) mention it to him.  He's usually very cool about it.

Well, you wanted someone with a less than 56K connection so here I am.... Connected at a roaring 28.8Kbps dial up it took me 20 minutes to load up the shots. Well, it actually to that long to load bits of them and then I got bored. Then I’ve got to view them on my monitor, which is only 800 X 600 anyway so I can’t view it all at the same time. I would rather Pete keep his money and use it for more d/l’s, and if all the threads here where like that then I would be forced to leave the forum because I wouldn’t be able to browse it!

Good stuff Dan,

We're obviously on the same bandwidth (?) - I share a similar set-up with you, have done so for many years, and keep coming back for more....     It works for me  Wink

There are still areas in the world where dial-up is the only option, there are many other alternatives for me if I lived a bit closer to the nearest Metropoliis.

Same here. We get our ISP services from out telephone company. They offer DSL but living more than 5 miles from the office I'd take such a hit in attenuation that I'd end up with dialup speeds and a DSL bill. Sometimes you just can't win.

I remember when it was like that for me, I could not get broadband if I wanted to. Luckily Adelphia upgraded their infrastructure in my area and I got some nice, fast broadband 8)
