Hey Tig, This will probably be moved, so don't get a surprise. It should be in the Real Aircraft forum...
And it's a 3 way tie for me between the Spitfire, Corsair, and Mustang.

Sorry if i put it in the wrong forum, I guess I know for next time. Now that you mentioned it, I've decided to replace the P-38 with the corsair. An obvious choice, really, but i didn't think of it before... Maybe that will help you choose, Dread Pirate Roberts. Then again it might make things harder for you...
P.S. If the mustang you're thinking of has an Allison engine DON'T vote for it. Mustangs with Allison engines shouldn't be alllowed to fly...

Hmm...
Hurricane Ia - 8 .303 machineguns
Hurricane Ib - 8 .303 machineguns
Hurricane IIa - 8 .303 machineguns
Hurricane IIb - 12 .303 machineguns
Hurricane IIc - 4 20mm cannon
Hurricane IId - 2 .303 machineguns 2 40mm cannon
You should do a bit more reading on them. They were equiped with just about every imaginable variation of weapon.

There is a guy in New Zealand building a new Mossie in his garage at home. The fuselage is completed already. He is currently working on the wings. I'll see if I can find some more stuff for you, I posted something a while back in Specific Aircraft

Ah the Sunderland. An incredibly handsome yet deadly aircraft. Just one question, I knew it had huge amounts of guns on board, just were where they all mounted? (Aside from the obvious 8 in the turrets.)

THeres another man in New Zealand who has sittin in his back paddock, a complete mossie not used since it was sold, with engines and cockpit and all,(sure the engines will need an overhaul but its do-able). And i think he also has a Mustang and two kitty hawks..But im only 76% sure on that.. And hes not gona sell any of them.

12 machine guns was the standered armament for the MkIIb so I would have thought that they were built in all the countries that produced them. However i'm no expert. Mabey different factories made different variations (MkIIa,b,c,d etc).

I do believe the poll depends on the nationality of the respondants as well. From the looks of the standings i'd say the Brits repsonded most with the Germans a close second and the other catagory in the lead obviously represents the many aircraft left out which could have claimed some of the American votes that normally would have gone to the Mustang and the Corsair. The first and second fastest piston fighters of the war. Here are my picks.
Fighter: Mustang, Corsair tie
Bomber: B-25
Allied Fighter: Spitfire
Enemy Fighter: FW 190
Enemy Bomber: None, the Axis totally lacked a really good bomber.
Wonder Machine: ME 262

Apart from the P-38 I don't think they could be described as fighters.

But, Hagar. Bombers do count in this pole. The header says "favorite WWII aircraft" Not specifically fighters. Bombers are indeed aircraft to. Indeed, many respondants must be in the UK, else the Corsair and the Mustang would have garnered more votes. Actually, the Mustang and Spitfire are so very similar. The RR Merlin engine was indeed a twister. Shame it isn't produced today. I can just imagine what computer management and a FADAC system would do for it. Indeed, who would need an over-priced, gas guzzling turbine if Merlines were still with us and evolved??? What a gem.

Ohhhh im hearing that mustang... so pritty. The best bomber ever was the lancaster, well i think so anyways.ha! not because of any of the specs but simply because its asthetically pleasing.. its gorgeous. THe coolist thing ive ever seen is a spitfire and a sopwith camel flying in formation for but a few seconds at warbirds over wanaka this year..(since someone brought up the topic of spitfires)
