Yes, that is true..... of BOTH packages.

But the FS genesis American Roads package is only the first half of a two part system that corrects the inaccurate rivers, lakes, and coastlines that M$ has setup in the default sim.

According to their comments on the upcoming release.... it will then fix those "roads in lakes" type issues.

I have checked a few spots for the "streams" that come with American Roads with handheld GPS... and the placement seems VERY accurate to me.

But then again I am running the "roads" package along with the FS Genesis terrain mesh and landclass for all of America........ so I don't know WHAT it would look like with the default terrain mesh.  Might be that with the default mesh..... rivers and railroads and roads and powerlines are "off" relative to Microsoft's placement of underlying terrain features... which itself is WAY off in many, many places.  When I installed the FSGenesis mesh... I was amazed at how far off places that I knew well were in the default mesh.

The real truth of the accuracy lies in the GPS coordinates of a feature.  If those are right... then it is in the right place no matter what the sim may show.

We all have to remember that we are looking at a simulation of the world that only a few years ago would have been considered "magic".   Wink

I`m presently running FSG mesh and landclass.

I bought the AD  stand alone program for the  streams, RR and power lines (I have US Roads) but was very disapointed.

First off the railroad placements seem to be very accurate. However there seems to be gaps in the data where stetches of RR are missing.

Then there are reports on the FSG fourm about how inaccurate the AD Roads power lines are compared to the default.

There is a a river/stream (Wallkill River) that litteraly wraps around my home airport (KMGJ-Montgomery,NY) which MS got pretty accurate. The airport is also very accurately placed in relation to the surrounding roads which "US Roads" depicts.

The AD program not ony got the river almost  a mile off in places, there are huge gaps and obvious, serious misalingments of the misplaced sections of the river.
There is obviously bad/corrupted data here.

So, I can only use the railroad portion of the program.

It should be pointed out that AD Roads is using cheaper/ more inacurate data than Flight1 US Roads.
It seems to be a clear case of you get what you pay for.

Now I'm sure that there are many areas that the data is pretty accurate and many are  very happy with the AD products placement of steams, etc.
However, for me personally I found it mostly useless in my particular area due to the  inacurate data.

Finally the main purpose of my complaints and observations is to assure those who already have US Roads that they did not make a bad choice!  Smiley

Home airports are KMGJ and KSWF in Orange County, NY&&Stop by and say hello. Smiley

I didn't get US roads, but I've got FSGenesis landclass mesh, West Coast, and Roads.

Well, for my area in central CA, it's stunningly accurate. got my road cul-de-sac in the right place with magnetic north in the right place etc. Even the stream that runs close and crosses one of the main roads near my block is there. Highways are all there near my local airport. Could be helped that FS2004 had my local airport featured as a stop in one of the early historical routes through CA in 1930's.

Yosemite roads are horrible though. Streams and roads on wrong impossible slopes. though the terrain  is beautiful and accurate. Las Vegas is messed up as the elevation differes from the surrounding FSGenesis landclass and the MS Vegas expanded scenery (Vegas folder in Cities).

Well there has been an update 1.1 patch(about 22 Mb) out just a few days ago. Guess I'll check it out sometime.

How does the FSGenesis terrain mesh compare to FS Global 2005? I'm new to all these scenery add ons but am trying to look for the best bang for my buck. I am assuming you can go with any terrain mesh to match something such as American Roads, but then again I may be wrong here? FS Global 2005 claims to be from space shuttle shots of the Earth, and requires up to 16GB in hard drive space, but that number is uncompressed, and also not to say just because a file is of a larger value that it necessarily has more detail... ???

Yes, you can get at an independent terrain from FSGenesis' roads; at least that's what's advertised. Just another layer on top of another.

If you want to see sample pics and their forum, the site is www.fsgenesis.net. I don't really know about FS Global. Maybe avsim.com has a review section on it...
