I'm going to buy a new laptop in the near future.  I'm looking to get a Dell Inspiron 9100, which has a ATI 9700 based video.  They also have a ATI 9800 based video, but I don't think the $350 increase in price justifies the 20% or so increase in performance.

I have the choice of 3 LCD screens.  All are 15.4" wide format.  The three resolutions are:

1280 x 800
1680 x 1050
1920 x 1200

They are all within $100 of each other so cost is not a big deciding factor.  However, if I pick the higher resolution screens, will I be stuck running those resolutions running FS2004 or will I be able to pick a lower resolution?  If I'm stuck w/ the higher resolutions, I'm afraid the frame rates will be really low.  What do you think?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Go for the highest res I guess.  I am sure you will be able to run it lower if you wish too but at least you have a high res option there if you want it.

Shame you cant stretch to the 9800 though if its not for gaming dont worry too much.

Nice looking notepad though.
