Shift+Tilde (The little squiggly thing to the right of the number one key. Looks like this: ~ )  I believe that is the default key combination for removing the brackets.  Works for me and should work for you unless your game has had the keyboard configured differently.

You should be able to assign your own key/joystick button for this via the Settings > Controller Assignments screen as well (I think it's under the Views sub-heading). BTW - my default setting seems to be [Shift + '].

Even so, I've noticed that sometimes it is not possible to turn the brackets off - I have no idea why.

If you really want to lose the brackets and can't get rid of them, switch modes with your tactical display and select a ground target instead - at least they will be out of your way then.

I guess you could also delete joystick and keyboard assignments for Select Next and Previous Targets and Toggle Padlock View - that way you are less likely accidentally to select a target in the first place.
