Finally after years of looking at severly compressed photos through aol, I finally found out that aol actually compresses images even further than standard jpeg formats...

well in AOL there is a little check-box in the sub-menus...

uncheck the box and wow! The photos are so much better!

ironic thing is that I'm getting DSL Monday and won't be using AOL anymore! Smiley

I've been with AOL for 5 years now. It has its faults but not as bad as people make out. IMHO

I don't use that buggy AOL browser for browsing, can't think why anyone would, so I never had the problem with images in the first place. Wink

I used AOL for a year as a student and it was ok, but now it has decided to live on my PC and won't uninstall (by any fashion)...

I fix/build PC's for people (by FAR not saying I am a guru or anythng, k?) - I have yet to unsinstall AOHell to a state of prior AOL. No matter what I do, including finding every file created with it and manually deleting it (AOL uninstall leaves a wharehouse full of files) no matter that I found and deleted every AOL reg key, many AOL aspects are left on the PC.

The ONLY way to rid wholly AOL is format.

There is a bright side to this. At least they've stopped sending me disks in the mail. Firefox with a good cable or dsl connection through the phone or cable companies, that's all anyone needs.

It was a number of years ago that I had AOL. I was 12 and was getting credit card offers in the mail. At least they stopped pretty quickly. I don't even get spam with my current provider, not yet anyway. Look at the fetish site ads you get in the AOL box. No I am not interested in sexy grandmas.  Shocked Tongue Undecided (Yabb really needs to get the barf smily.)

I'm still getting free AOL demo CD's probably for NINE years now probably because whenever I get a new computer, I erase all the AOL shortcuts and folders preinstalled I could find. Now it's a two disk package with shiny decor on the CDs and thousands of free hours before monthly etc.

I know about trying to uninstall AOL software. A friend wanted me to "fix" his computer to run DSL video chat faster. I suggested adding more memory. Think he got the wrong amount. Anyways, I tried to figure out what was wrong, and it turned out to be AOL stuff on startup that gobbled all the memory. Still couldn't figure out how to get rid of everything after an hour then my friend said thanks, he was over it. So didn't need me anymore. Think he was going to get a new computer anyways.
