I thinking of getting a laptop for work at school. A cheap used one of course so it probably won't have an ethernet port. I'm hoping to find one with USB. I'm wondering if it's possible to transfer files from one computer to another by linking them with a USB cable. If so, how would I go about it?

I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday. Wink&&The Rig: &&AMD Athlon XP2000+ Palomino, ECS K7S5A 3.1, 1GB PC2700 DDR, Geforce FX5200 128mb, SB Live Platinum, 16xDVD, 16x10x40x CDRW, 40/60gb 7200rpm HDD, 325w Power, Windows XP Home SP1, Directx 9.0c with 66.81 Beta gfx drivers

I know that it is possible, but couldn't tell you how to go about it.

Another way of doing it is that laptops *usually* have PCMCIA ports/slots inwhich you can fit a card. If you have a free slot you can get a PCMCIA ethernet card for around #30USD... Smiley then you can hook your sytem up to a network no matter where you go..Smiley

Just my thoughts, and nothing more..Wink

I was getting an old one. Some older ones don't have them.

Likely Windows 2000 or XP if I can.  Some used ones only have Windows 98 on them which is notoriously unstable.

I'll hang onto that guide. It's just what I'm looking for.
