Hello fellow FS2002 fans, I haven't posted much here, but I've been an old fan of the fs series since way back to fs2 for the atari 800xl. It wasn't until fs2001-2002 until I finally learned how to land with flaps, and how trim is used, haha. Makes me want to re-set up the 800xl system and see if the 2 frames per second Bruce Artwick SubLogic FS2 actually works with trim and flaps. <g>.

Well, my question is the "last" checkride. (Does Patty Wagstaff do all the jet airliner checkrides?). Ok, I take off, engine 1 fails, then the instructor recovers it. I do the "manuevers" 90 degrees, then 315 than 90 etc, then finally it asks me to fly to that Chesterfield? VOR 90 deg radial. Well I do so, but nothing happens after I follow it out. After 14+ nm indicated in the DME, it always says I "flew out of the assigned holding area". Your mission is a failure etc.

I've tried the basic holding pattern going around and around that VOR station etc. But it looks like it times out and still says "flew out of the assigned holding area".

Anyone passed it? Or is it truly the "impossible" checkride? I've passed all the other checkrides with help from these boards.

Thanks!

The private pilot checkride question is easy.

I don't have any idea about the other one.

I did it a few times with the autopilot.  It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, as soon as you pass the Chesterfield VOR, you start your holding pattern (180 deg. turn, straight for one minute, 180 turn, straight for one minute, repeat).  I don't recall getting an instruction to start it once I past the VOR.  I believe that it is part of the instruction to get to the VOR.  It might be helpful to open your GPS window.  You can fly the pattern all day and not get it, because each segment of the pattern has to prettey much align with the last pass.  After a few laps, you would ideally see what looks like one line trace of the pattern in the GPS.  I think you have to complete 2 laps in the same alignment to get the next instructions.  If you veer off course, you start from zero, and need to do 2 more laps.

I know it says Autopilot is inactive in that check ride, but I was able to use it, and also never had my engine cut out (even when she says it does).  But at the end I failed.  Not because of the auto pilot, but because I went outside of parameters when it came to making the turns, etc.  Just not bad enough to fail it instantly.
