Guys,

is there a way t create a new account inside windows xp sp1 and this new account doesn't use nothing that is loaded in the administrator's account? I mean, I've created one but both Adm and Fsaccount shared the same msconfig.ini - and I don't want this to happen cos in my Am's account my antivirus and dialing system and others (heavy applications) - what I want - if t's possible - to make this fsaccount as free as possible

is it possible? can some1 help me?

thanx in advance!

cya!

Foo in control panel just go to user accounts. Click on it, go to create new account and just work through it.
As the admin you can say that the user is NOT allowed access to certain programs.

I've never thought about this, but then would it be possible to set up a user account and have FS9 as the only program that can be used by that account, meaning that when you open it you'll have a account with no other "background " programs, apps, etc running??

If so this would mean that you could start up FS9, without doing the "Ctrl,Alt,Delete" or FSAutostart routine to fire up the sim with as much free Ram and almost all resources freed for your Sim to use. Correct???

I've done this recently and have been dealing with some problems.  Some is simple like no wallpaper, turning off all the fancy (processor consuming) XP effects, and so on.  But some things are not as easy.

First, the virus software does not disable automatically in the new identity.  I have to shut it down manually.

Next..... it appears that the fs9.cfg file that is associated with the FIRST user.... the identity that you used to fly with...... is not copied over to the new identity.  So it goes to default settings.  And it "looses" the path to stuff like the saved default flight.  So I had to manually copy the cfg file over the thje new user.  Never did solve the path thing... just created a new one.

Also I am having an issue with my Goflight units.  All the setup configuration that I had in the one account disappeared whrn I switched accounts.  It is still there in the original.  But I'd have to assign all the functions again in the new accouint to get them back.  BUT that doesn't work... because if I try..... I get an error message in the GFconfig program about a .dll not being present.

So there might be more issues too.  I am just getting started on this.  Any suggestions would be welcome from experienced XP users.

best,

.............john

I see now what your talking about John, I figured I would try and make a FS9 account like you and I'm getting the same problems. So then I decided to try to make the FS9 account Administrator but that then makes it impossible to install software and still keep the account as free as possible.
There IS a way around this I know it, it is just figuring it out, sad thing is I bet it is easier than I'm making it Cry
I bet the best time to do something like this is after a fresh install of the OS, something to think about when I build my new computer!

I have only a few days ago reformatted and now have two XP installations. One just for flightsim with Service pack 1 and the other for all other internet, office and general stuff with XP Service pack 2 and a complete array of security software installed.

The FS system its not hooked up to the network, internet, no updates, no non-FS related programs installed and most services and hardware disabled. Runs a dream! There is a lot of substance to the old 9800XT if you treat it right! ( Tongue 9800-2-6800 switchers Roll Eyes

I was expecting some trouble with M$ activation but the electronic lady seemed fine with it!
