Can anyone comment?  As I have been flying, ATC announces other aircraft in my vicinity and gives the familar phrase "report traffic in site".  I have frantically searched, changed views, zoomed in and out but most of the time I can never see the other aircraft.  Maybe 1 out of 12 or 15 I spot.  Is there a best way to spot them or is this just a FS2002 thing?   Maybe I should ask has anyone else had this problem?  I can see the other aircraft is I use the <CRTL W> command but this takes the reality away.

Just do it the easy way:

¬Settings
¬Air Traffic Control
¬Tick "Aircraft Labels"

That way any AI traffic in the vicinity (about 10nm) can be easily spotted as it will have its registration number and distance from your aircraft written in red text above it. So all you have to do in a traffic alert situation is look for this text. That way at least you'll be looking for something  Wink

One thing I have noticed is that atc wont tell you untill the plane is within 4 NM of you and by the time they tell you the plane has allready passed you are beside you depending on the planes involved.I do as c.a.b. said I turn on aircraft labels altitudes and types so I can see them each plane will show up once it gets within about 10 nm of your posistion. That way you can see them before ATC tells you about them.

Works a bit like the cool bit of kit you've got in your car to warn you that there is a speed trap just down the road..so take evasive action... Wink...!

One of the best examples of a TCAS gauge is in John Consterdine's (FS Tipster) Beech Baron panel here http://www.simviation.com/fs2002panels22.htm

If you learn a little panel editing you can put the gauge in any panel.

TCAS = trafic collision avoidance system.
This will help but will not stop the problem using spot views works just as good in my opinion and it is one less gauge. And trying to find a place to put it on a panel without covering some other important gauge can be a pain in the end. Grin

That's why I usually put them into popup windows like this:

"Standard" 737 panel
...

With GPS popup window
...

And with TCAS popup window
...

A more realictic TCAS for the 734 would be Lee Heatherington's TCAS II v7 integrated to the VSI, simply replace the standard VSI with Lee's and you'll have a realistic TCAS.  Smiley

Just search for "ilh_tcas_v4.zip" on Avsim...

I've grown accustomed to this one but I'm always willing to look at something new.  For me "more realistic" is not always the same as "better".

Is there a teeny little, simple, TCAS gauge somewhere. that will fit on a Cessna 152, Piper Cub, Microlight, etc, panel... Wink...?

I have an idea that a small box is commercially available with audio and visual light indication which can be placed on the coaming, and picks up a warning signal from aircraft in the vicinity... 8)...!

Handy for the times when I am out of range of ATC, or reading the latest copy of "Bike" magazine instead of looking out of the window.... Roll Eyes.... Grin...!
LOL...!

Cheers all... Grin...!

Either f-16.gau or the one Nexus recommended can be resized.  Don't you have Tipster's Baron panel?  He stuck it down in a corner.

Hi Jim...!
..just spotted a couple here. Searched for "TCAS gauge"...>>>

http://www.flightsim.com

There are 8 of them..
Small dials... 8)...!
Will give them a try... Grin...!
(I've got FSUIPC).

Cheers... Grin...!

Paul.

P.S. I downloaded the Baron panel but couldn't identify it in the Gauges Folder, (what is it called)?

P.P.S. Having downloaded the Flightsim gauges and read the installation readme files, there is more complication to this than first meets the eye... Cry...!
LOL...!
