In the fall, when temperature drops, it seems like half the spider population of sweden are looking for a place to live - in my house!
Oh the horror

Why? Leave it be or adopt it as a pet. I'm fond of spiders myself. They eat all those horrible insects. I would never deliberately kill one. My Mum told me if you kill a spider you make it rain.

Lol, neat! I like holding them, to test my bravery. But I also love feeding them to my pet rat!
She just grabs them and eats them alive! It's really neat!

Agree....I don't look at spiders as vermin, quite the contrary actually. I'm not really afraid of them, and I appreciate their job (keeping the house clean of other insects).
However if they are just running around in my room (homeless spiders LOL), I usually place a glass over them, slide in a paper and carry them to the door and toss them out...am I not a class act landlord?

This used to be the case in the UK. Not so sure now.

Be careful when buying bananas.
PS. And grapes.
Quote:
Stephanie Thorneycroft, from Wimborne in Dorset, found a black widow, which has distinctive red markings on the underside of its abdomen, climbing up the side of a colander as she was rinsing grapes in her sink.
Tesco said US producers used natural predators to protect fruit, as an alternative to chemicals.
But it strongly denied the distinctive spider, whose venom is 15 times more potent than a rattlesnake, was deliberately used on suppliers' crops in the US.
Spokesman Jonathan Church said: "The idea is to reduce pesticide use by introducing natural predators instead, but we do not use black widow spiders.
"It is possible that is why the spiders in these three cases have got through because if we had used pesticides they would be dead."

...not saying that black widows don't exist in Sweden because they do.
Some months ago a newspaper reported that a man who imported an american car, got a little surprise. A black widow was apparantly included in the bargain
The spider had built a nest in the undercarriage and the man was so dead afraid so he told the paper that he will leave the spider alone until it dies from the cold climate...well guess what, the black widow was PREGNANT, meaning thousands of spiderlings in his garage.
Talk about being royally screwed

Too many times we had some nasty little things in the bananas. I personally came face to face with a banana spider(or whatever they are called) i know a few of my friends dealt with snakes and some very dangerous creatures in the stuff we had at the co-op.
With our summers becoming warmer and winters also being milder these stow aways are more likely to survive and breed, prob wont be long before these creatures become more common

Well, 19 000 of them are probablt microscopic or the near equivalent. I wouldn't need to feed my rat at all if there was that many in my house.

That looks about the same size as the spider that was living in our bathroom
...... I'd named it Henrietta and was feeding it, much to the wifes chagrin
... she hates them.
Alas and alack ..... Henrietta is no more
........ she was last seen legs waving from the mouth of one of the cats. I'm sure the wife put him up to it.
cheers

You should take a trip to Washington. We got plenty of slugs
That kind of looks like a Hobo Spider. Males come out to find a mate around the end of summer/early fall. I've seen a few even though they aren't that common in the Pacific NW.

A fun little test for all the spider haters.
Did you know that at any given time, anytime of the year a spider is within 3 feet of you??
Go ahead, look around!
I see at least two, but know there are more.
Here in TN we get a lot of creatures, spiders (and Black Widows!) scorpians, beetles of all kinds etc.
Another little known fact the Daddy Long Legs spider (uncertain its real name) is the most poisonous spider in the world!!!!! Yes the ones we as kids would pull the huge legs off from, thing is thier fangs are so soft that they can't break human skin, THANK GOD!

I love arachnids. Orb Weavers when they are around I feed them until they get big.
Here in Missouri, the one spider I am not fond of finding is the "Violin Spider" also more commonly known as the Brown Recluse. I have found this particular nasty spider in my home a fw times in the past 3 years.
Worst thing about them is their bite tends to cause necrosis of the skin around the bite that continues to spread, and often times becomes bad enough that amputation is necessary if not caught in time.
The one bug I cannot stand is the American Cockroach. I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE them

If I remember right, most "spiders" are actually almost microscopic. So, it could be true-who knows.

Or under your house. I don't know where you live-but if its in a standard house (meaning no basement) then you probably only a few above the actual ground. There are probably a bunch on small creatures just under the soil-undoubtly many are spiders.

WHAT?!
Beatings will be administered. Administered I tell you!
The only creatures I can't stand and kill on sight are 'Skeeters and Roaches. I usually leave spiders on their merry way.
I only hate American Roaches tho'. I had a Madagascan Hissing cockroach. I often relate it to the feline of the insect world. They regularly bathe themselves (although all insects do) and are quite docile. I also learned they're nocturnal. For the longest time I thought my pet roach was dead or dying, but every day I awoke I found my pet in a different heading or level (I made multiple "floors" for the cage I had him/her) and one late night, whilst reading, I heard a scratching. Turned out to be Mr. Roach crawling about the cage.
I don't know what it is about American Roaches that makes them so gross. Madagascan Roaches, are... nice.
The Devil's Advocate.
