HI all

Just a quick question, How hot should my cpu and mother board be running? What is a safe maximum? Thanks Chris

This would depend on what processor it is, but anything around 50C or lower is normal.

AMD recomends that you not let any CPU get hotter than 70c. Your case should sit at around 32c max.

I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday. Hi thanks for the quick replies, its a pentium p4 3.0 Gig. A short time after flying fs9 I checked the temps the cpu was 100F I can't remember the mother board temp. ( I forgot to make a note of the temps) It looks like I might need extra fans! I have one on the cpu one in the power supply and one in the side blowing in. Again thanks. Chris

My CPU (the same as yours) gets up to 125F after FS2004. Normal idle temp is 98-105F. I also use CPUIdle. It's a program that actually cools the cpu more when at idle.

What do computers and air conditioners have in common?...
They both will work perfectly, until you open windows.

Hi Skittles at idle my cpu hovers around the 80-85F mark. But this is only used to fly on at the moment every thing els is done on this computer. Regards Chris

100F is fine, that is about 38C.  I would not be worried about the motherboard temp unless you o/c.  You are looking at any temps less then 125F being the norm for the cpu

My P4 3.2 runs at a steady 130-135!!    Shocked

Which is dumb...its all Intel equip...meaning, CPU and fan are a set, motherboard is Intel...etc.  WTF?  My room is hot during the summer though...but I even leave the case open...

Hi Silver...!

If you leave the case open it defeats the object of having fans in there... Shocked...!

The closed, sealed case and fan arrangement is designed to draw cooling air from the front of the case, over the hot components, and exhaust it from the rear of the case.
If the lid is removed the cooling air circulation is no longer effective... Wink...!

Cheers all... Grin...!

Paul.

My AMD 2600+ runs at 62*C, (142*F)...no problem...!
LOL...!

Well, yes...that does make sense....BUUUUUUUUUUUUT when you open the case, and the system begins running cooler...I'd say that logic can be thrown right out the window.

In my situation, I have to agree with Fozzer. My CPU increases by about 15-20F with the case open.

Well I just closed my case...

Not much is going on temp-wise...actually maybe gained 2-4 degrees in all system areas.

HOWEVER my system fan immediately increased speed by 2000 RPM.  It's huffin and puffin...

Hi Skittles... Grin...!

Case manufacturers go to great lengths to design their cases to provide the most efficient air flow through the case.
Anything which interrupts the normal air flow through the case ie: lid removal, cable bundles, ribbon cables,  cobwebs, dead rodents, etc, will adversely affect the temperature of the components.

There are a number of articles on the WEB describing methods of ensuring efficient air cooling within computer cases.

Cheers all... Grin...!
