In the end I'm really only looking for just a few things:

1. the ability to design my own fs 2004 planes (finding a good plane design program so I can manually copy my PlutoCon)

2. set the weather so that it's thunderstorming all the time

3. Freedom to cruise my PlutoCon at FL 1020.

And a bunch of other stuff. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who already has a copy of fs9. I can get myself a supercomputer later. Grin

To sum it all up in one post (LOL!! Look who is going to attempt it

)

The more computer you have to better FS9 will be.

FS9 runs good on even the weaker systems, but some of the features will have to be sacrificed some.

The weather can be amazing but refer to the above.

And after your first install and going through the hassle of the tweaks you can enjoy it very much!

I don't own a laptop, so can't even think of giving any info on to how it will run on one Sad

All in all, now that FS9 has been out for awhile, and the price has dropped a great deal I don't see the reason for not trying it. After all many here have already figured out fixes for 90% of any problems you may experiance. And you obviously made the first correct choice by comming here to ask you questions

Many here can help you get the best out of FS9 and the system you have available to run it on!

When it comes to the weather, EXACTLY how much control do we have? Is like fs2000, where we can literally have a hundred cloud layers? The best part about it is that the more thunderstorm layers you have, the more frequent the lightning.

Yes, it takes A LOT of t-storm layers to create a venus-like thunderstorm in fs2000.

Hmm... Maybe i'll search for a good freeware aircraft design program while i'm at it....

I like the Real World Weather feature (as long as my internet connection stays hooked) it downloads real weather info, so if you know of a storm brewing somewhere you can fly too it if you want!
There are also weather packages developed by simmers that you can add the recreate weather in various forms and severity. I thnk the name of one such is WeatherMaker, you can do a google search for it.

With the right data...... and the right design software....... you should be able to create a whole world terrain mesh that either emulates or actually IS Venus. Then you could use a program to create new textures for the surface. Then also create a landclass that maps the right textures to it in the right places.

The thing that would be way off would be the diameter of the planet. But maybe that is fixable too.... don't know.

This would be a HUGE project....... but with available technology and programs... it likely could be done.

PS: And yes, you can create "user defined" weather.

PPS: I think the max altitude is 99,000 ASL.

PPPS: Skittles is 100% correct .... fs2004 is a resource hog. It taxes the best machines available. You laptop likely will be more of a slide show than a flight simulator. Caveat Emptor.

I just downloaded a few scenery design programs for fs98/2000, so I'm gonna try that Venus thing. Even though my favorite planet is Pluto. Grin
