Typically gauges will be placed in the FS2002/Gauges folder. Aside from reading the installations instructions that came with the aircraft, it might help to read the Aircraft Installation Tutorial here......

'Terrain mesh' files are scenery add-ons that give greater detail to ground elevation in FS. Mountains and valleys and such are much more realistic (rugged), especially during lower altitude flying. IMHO, essential if your into bush/low altitude flying.
In general when looking at the file description, the smaller the sampling distance, 30Meters vs 70 Meters, or the higher the Level of Detail, LOD9 vs LOD7, the more detail you will see.
