No response when trying to obtain the registration is a problem for quite a few new gmax users.

You can use this register
workaround
to get gmax up and running.

As for tutorials and you being new to 3D design, start working through the official gmax tutorials. They will help you more than trying to start off by working through tutorials for building aircraft. You need to get the basics down first and learn some of the tools.

The official tutorials are good at teaching the GUI and most commonly used tools. More specific tutorials tend to assume you at least have a basic knowledge of gmax.

FSDS2 is quite expensive, but it's worth the price tag. It offers an easier interface, and mor options (in my opinion) than G-max.

That's an interesting statemtent  (more options) ...  and I would qualify it, but as a modelling program, even I have to admit that gWax is the more powerful tool... not that I use it to any extent, being a die-hard FSDS user, but ....

*Katahu clears up his throat in preparation for his statement*

"It doesn't matter which program you use and it doesn't matter how easy or expensive it is. Just like any other baby, you have to learn how to crawl before you walk. But it doesn't stop there. You then have to learn how to walk before you fly, and then learn how to fly before you do anything radical. Have an excellent day."
