Intuition?

Any moment, everything can change, Feel the wind on your shoulder, For a minute, all the world can wait, Let go of your yesterday. Can you hear it calling? Can you feel it in your soul? Can you trust this longing? And take control, Fly! Open up the part of you that wants to hide away! You can shine, Forget about the reasons why you can't in life, And start to try, cause it's your time, Time to fly. - H.D., Fly

Well I'm a prog nut these days.

I can't respect anyone who doesn't write their own music. People like Britney spears get by on an image not through musical talent. I saw a concert of hers on TV nad I swear there was not much "live" about sure she sung a bit to a tape but I mean it wasn't much better than listening to a CD.

I prefer music that tries to be different and push the boundries. some of the old classics were ELP, Rush and Pink Floyd. Of course this was all destroyed by Punk and Jonny Rotten's famous quote "I hate Pink Floyd".

Now Prog Rock is desperately uncool. Although I have to say it is slowly coming back through names such as Muse and Soundgarden. Marillion even made it back into the top 10 this year Grin

I also love the old blues classics and hard rock stuff. I for one blame the eighties for making pop an industry rather than a musical genre. There are still a few making it on their own steam though such as Robbie Williams, DIDO and Sugababes. Although I don't really like their music I can at least respect them.

Beyonce - no opinion
Madonna - Had some decent songs in the 80s, but now it's just wierd stuff. My wife doesn't listen to her anymore.
Christina Aguilera - Has more talent than Britney, but no real opinion
Eminem - An angry white guy rapper wanna-be who named himself after candy. Isn't he the guy who hates his mother?
Evanescenece - Heard that hit song of theirs. Pretty good stuff.
Britney Spears - An unfortunate case of someone being used as a puppet by the music industry.
Delta Godreem - Who?
Black eyes peak - see above response.
Hillary Duff - no opinion

I like metal and found that it died in this country around 1992. Megadeth's "Coutdown to Extinction" was one of the last really good metal albums to come out that got any real commercial attention (we won't talk about Metallica). So I have turned to Europe for my metal and have found many good, talented and HONEST bands from there.

Lacuna Coil (Italy)
Opeth (Norway)
Borknagar (Norway)
Dark Tranquillity (Sweden)
Dimmu Borgir (Norway)
Amon Amarth (Sweden)
Blind Gaurdian (Germany)

Those are examples of bands that don't give a d*** about trends or what's popular.

All of them are generic corporate creations that only exist to separate guillable young teens from the money in their parents wallets and none of them have an original thought in their bleached blonde heads...

K, thought I'd add my 2 pence, I have to listen to the radio every day cause i go to school on a bus and other people want it on. In my opinion it plays terrible music.

Beyonce - Don't really like. New R nd B just isn't R and B like Martha Franklin, its more a pop and R and B mix.
Madonna - Her earlier work was ok, but she has gone the pop way, making music that just doesn't seem as good as her earlier stuff.
Christina Aguilera - nice voice, again, not very good - pop music
Eminem - I didn't mind his music but i think he's just run out of the good ideas, he needs to stop telling people to screw off and he needs to stop complaining about his mum.
Evanescence - Their music is ok, i like the fact that not all their music is heavy. They have some good tunes but, frankly, I'm not really into new metal.
Brtiney Spears (I would have called her something else) - Trash from the word go, makes bad music for small amounts of money. I hate it when people put bad music to a good beat for a low price and make millions. Also, she seems to use the same tune in a few of her songs - creativity? h yeah, the skin thing too - a lot of people adore her for her 'sexy' looks in virtually nude photographs postered everywhere. Thats not how to promote even pop music.
Delta Godreem - Don't know em, cant comment
Black eyes peak - again, don't know em
Hilary Duff - haven't heard any of her works so don't know.

All in all, I don't like much pop music because I feel there is a lack of skill involved in most of it nowadays (and yeah, I think I could write better music). It's basically getting some beats and a tune, writing some lyrics (in most cases about love, we need some difference) and selling the song, making millions for nearly nothing (in comparison to the money they have). I don't like slipknot for the same reason, it sounds more like noise and just doesn't have much deep 'feeling' in it, just screaming. Their new stuff seems to be more new metal, and if so, I think they need to lose the hate image (and those masks which I feel, are really ointless). Most new metal bands show their faces (eg linkin park). System O A D are ok, and at least have their own style and interesting lyrics.

Bands like soundgarden, Mogwai, Pink floyd and a host of others, all seem to really put across meaning in their songs (and not just about love and high school) and write good, skillful music. If music does take a turn, and we go through a 50s - 80s type era, I don't think I'll mind at all,
Just my 2 pence,
Adam
