What are some of the coolest and weirdest airports you have been on.  Grin

My hobby in FS is to find then and take the challenges and enjoy the rides.  For me the coolest and weirdest is located in Greenland (Don't have the GPS ID at the moment, need to get a new PC).  The runway is short and you can take it with a big bird and there is not enough runway for take off so after the runway is out you jump of a cliff and there push the stick down to gain some speed then pull up and enjoy the scary ride...will you crash or not.  That's the fun part.  By the landing side that's another tale.

This airport is located on the SW corner of Greenland, as I remember it was the second one closes to the SW.

The weirdest thing i ever did is just 10 minutes ago, i do bushflying in laos and vietnam a lot, so i took my b727 to VVDB (it has no name as i remember right Grin)....The Runway is made of wooden slats, no kidding! It´s a wooden runway and much to short for a bird like the b727, but i like challenges, so i pulled the parking breaks, flaps on max, trimmed the plane so it would almost takeoff by itself and then i gave full power to the engines......
wow, it took off just in time, i had almost a stall after starting, the dangerous thing at this "airport" is the hill just beginning at the end of the runway, so you have to pull up like hell, but not too much, otherwise you will stall, as i said.....needed 3 times before i made it....but it´s really tough flying there with jets, i can tell you Grin

i think Microsoft has the oppinion that the vietnamese Government hasn´t got enough money for proper runways, cause as i looked through all "airports" there the main part of them has nothin but wooden runways.... Grin
you´ll have to take a look at this by yourself, it´s worth while!

Isn´t that funny.... Grin Grin Grin

that was a very informative post/ answer by me, Mr. Ray_Ban, and i send greetz with it, of course!!!

I love flying around the world and stoping in all the great cool places like the Sahara, Cairo, Rome, I usually do a quick stop in India and then fly to Australia.  I'll have to stop by Viet Nam when I get FS2004.

Another cool airport which is where I test my birds is in the outback in Australia.  (I consider it my Area 51) There is this airport I think the ID is YAYE which in FS2000 it looks like a big meteor crater and down there is the runway.  In FS2002 I didn't like it much because it doesn't look like a crater no more, but it still was cool...can't wait to try it out in FS2004.

There's an airport in Antartica that's "broken".  The runway lies below the terrain.  When you take off from there you get some weird clipping effects until you break through the terrain map.  On landing you can see the runway, but when you land on it you warp through the terrain to find yourself 10 feet or so about the actual runway and surrounded by clipping effects.  It's a strange place.

I'm going to have to try some of these airports you guys are talking about.  Never seen a wooden runway before...

One fun airport is a little grass strip in Peperell, MA (USA).  When you land at runway 6 (IIRC) you have to fly over some hills and power lines before you can decend (at a high angle) on to the very short runway.  It's a challenge in a Cessna.  Must be darn impossible in anything bigger.  If you cheat and fly through the power lines it's not so bad.
