Just read something over at SOH about someone having succsesfully converted Dave Garwoods 2k4 Hunter to CFS2, I've never been able to register there so I can't get more info than that. Just thought some of you might be interested.
Also there was an F-3 Demon released by the VN over at nonodes a few days back, this project originally started as a CFS2 bird and I was wandering if anyone has heard anything. I've tried contacting the designer (Colmack) by PM here but he never responded and like I said I can't accsses the forums over at SOH

You can do it. It's been awhile since I dabbled with converting FS9 planes to Cfs2 planes, I'll have to research my archives.
It won't work on all planes, and on some planes it only works a little.
Essentially you download a hex editor, change some values in the mdl file(s), and replace the original file.
It's late tonight, so I'll have to start looking tomorrow sometime, for the site to get the editor. I think it came with directions.
If someone else doesn't give you the info first, I'll post it as soon as I find it.

The MDLC utility would be the best method. It's DOS-based but not difficult to use once you figure it out. This (or hex editing the MDL) converts the visual model only. You would need to add/remove some AIR file & Aircraft.cfg entries for it to work in CFS2.

Was kinda hopping I wouldn't have to use MDLC, never quite figured it out the last time

Do you have a link for this Hunter? If it's a reasonable size I might try it myself. Much as I love that aircraft I'm not into big downloads these days.
PS. The visual model should be no problem. I'm no great shakes on the AIR file tweaks.

TS,
Found the stuff.
Send me your email addy, via a PM, & I'll send you the folder with the instructions, hex editor, etc.
I can't find the zip file for it.
Hagar, if you're interested I'll send it to you, too.

Thanks HC but I think the tute you mentioned is posted right here at Simv.

Hex editing the MDL should convert the visual model but you might have a problem with the animations.

Using MDLC on a proper FS9 aircraft you have to convert the MDL for FS2002 first, then convert that for CFS2. I found a couple of versions of the Hunter posted right here. I've downloaded one & will check it out with MDLC later.

Here ya go. This took a couple of minutes with MDLC.
It works fine in CFS2 apart from being semi-transparent. You would need to reformat the textures with DXTBmp to fix it. Aircraft.cfg will also need a simple tweak to fix the nose gear animation. (There might be another option in MDLC to do this.)
Try it your way first. If you have no luck I'll show you how I do it with MDLC.
PS. Haven't tried it but I'm sure it would also work in FS2002.

Hagar,
You're right it is the same tutorial. However, when I Dl'd, unzipped, & tried to get the hex editor, I got the "can't display this page" message.
Don't know what the deal is. I hope TS hasn't given up.

HC. If you want a hex editor FrHed is posted somewhere in the Simv Utilities section. Why not try MDLC & save yourself the trouble? It only takes a couple of minutes without all that messing about.
