Specifically, I want to change the capabilities of the engine I am using, but I can't seem to find the specifications on the engine. Its a specific one (P&W JT15D-5C), and I would like it to be as realistic as possible.
So what does the N2 rating consist of? Can I use some formula to figure it out from given information, or is it some obscure data that I would be hard pressed to find?

As to what effect the N2 rating has I couldnt tell you. You might want to do some research on real world turbine engine design and performance.
As to how to change it, most of details and enginee performance are still in the *.air file. This file can not be manualy edited but there are a couple of freeware progams with will let you do so. Specificly AirEd and Aircraft AirEd Manager. I believe links to both programs can be found in the aircraft design area on this sight.
The *.air file isnt all that straight forward and you will have to dig a bit to find all the various section that effect the turbine engine properties.

You might want to break out your 3 inch thick magnifying glass trying to find anything in the .air file is not the easiest task around. And when you do find something do you increase or decrease the value you found. It is defintely trial & error time here.
I do not know about any one else but I for one am not a engineer or flight mechanic.
What little I do know makes me about as dangerous as a lit match in a powder room.
