Sussex Airshow 2004... Had just rained making for good shots...

A nice Goodyear F4U Corsair...

A nicer Douglas A-1 Skyraider or "Sandy"

.........................................................................

And maybe the most famous plane in Flight Sim, "Briefing Time"! Was to my surprise to see her sitting on the flight line as well.

You're both right.

The Douglas Skyraider was the AD (-4 being the variant). In 1962 (thereabouts) the designation of most military aircraft was "consolidated" and the AD became the A-1 (just as the F4H and F-110 became the F-4; but the few reamining F4D Skyrays I believe retained their F4D designations - Don't ask why the F-117 remains in the century series of fighter designations when it's really an attack ("A") aircraft.
