I am trying to get back into my Cfs2 program, but all I get is an error message that says "Cfs2 has caused and error in <unknown>."  I've reinstalled the program (twice), but no change.  All I've done recently is run a virus scan (McAfee) and Spybot Search and Destroy.  No viruses and Spybot got rid of the usual stuff.  Any suggestions at all - I'm in a flat spin here!

Mike. I don't know if you're aware that CFS2 has a limit to the number of installed aircraft. Exceeding this limit can cause all sorts of error messages. The first thing I would suggest is removing a few 3rd party aircraft. Please read my CFS2 FAQ page. http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs2faq.htm

If that doesn't fix it try a duplicate install. Rename the CFS2 root directory - then insert the CD & install in the usual way.

Hope this is some help.

Haven't installed any aircraft - so that's probably not it.  I'll rename the original directory and try the re-install.  I'll keep you posted.

In that case I can't think what caused the problem. I would think a complete Uninstall/Install of the sim would fix it. Are you sure you haven't done anything else since it last ran properly?

Try the duplicate install & see if that does the trick. If it works you can safely delete the original CFS2 directory. Good luck.

No dice.  Didn't work.  I'm thinking there is a problem elsewhere - probably in Windows.  I had an error about the iphlpapi.dll file that I thought I corrected.  I'll replace the file.  Any other suggestion would be greatly appreciated!!!

If you're running Windows me or XP I would try a system restore and go back aways and see if a reinstall will work.

I had the same type of thing happen to me with FS2002 and the only way I could get it to work is to uninstall at add/remove programs and then I did a search and deleted all FS2002 files I could find. If you have no addons you will not lose anything there.

After I did that it worked.  I think I screwed mine up while I was installing a new aircraft, but I guess I'll never know for sure.

Good luck with this.

If there is a limit, what is the max number of planes?

This seems to vary depending on which 3rd party aircraft you have. It can be anything between about 80 - 100 including the stock aircraft. You will soon know when you start getting unexplained error messages.

Hagar, I haven't tried it but how is it that some peeps say they have up to 900 or more planes in one directory and all is still well? The closest that I've gotten was 90 and qc starting giving me errors. Also is there any limit to the amount of ships that can be installed?

Thanks
Ron

Hi Ron. I suspect they didn't install the MB. I covered this point in your previous thread. http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=cfs2;action=display;num=10...

I'm not sure of my facts but I'm not aware of a similar limit on ships. I suspect there is one.
