Problems with the swift nav lights. (Read 603 times)

I turned the Nav lights on and here is where they appear.

Is there any way to fix this (I got these from FsFreeware)...

...

Any way to fix this or should I try downloading it from somewhere else?

You can edit the aircraft.cfg file.

How much editing detail do you need?
 
What do computers and air conditioners have in common?...
They both will work perfectly, until you open windows.

How can I get the light onto the wings, where they belong...what lines should I add?

This is from the Cessna 172, so the numbers are not correct, but it shows you what you're looking for.

[LIGHTS]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit        
light.0 = 3,  -2.88, -18.11, 2.95, fx_navred
light.1 = 3,  -2.88,  18.11, 2.95, fx_navgre

You need to edit these lines so that in your aircraft.cfg file, the lights are in the correct place.


The light.# may be different. You're looking for the fx_navred & fx_navgre lines

The numbers in the above example are X, Y, and Z axis coordinates.  So they define the light's location in 3 dimensional space relative to a point on the aircraft.  bee a while since I fiddled with them...... so I can't remember if the "point" is the CG or not.

Play CAREFULLY wit hthe numbers and see how a SMALL change moves them.  Then you'll know which one goes which way.  The a little trial and error will get them in the right place.

I have done this for a number of aircraft that had incorrect files.  It works.

Ah.... yes it is.  I don't think most people really appreciate the huge amount of time that goes into either freeware or payware scenery and aircraft design.

I posted this problem with the Nav lights on the Globe Swift here when it was first released.....
I'm now hoping that if this thread goes on long enough, somone will come up with the complete modification of the .air file, and post it here for me.... Wink...!

Does anyone, perchance, know which axis is which?

With the help of a line Ozzy sent me, I have the lights about level with the plane, but they're still in front.

Heya Jordanj,

I have modified pretty much all of my Aircraft.cfg files to include the following lines:

[LIGHTS]  
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
//       Type    (X Axis)  (Y Axis)   (Z Axis)

Note:  When FS 2004 sees a // before an entry in the Aircraft.cfg file this tells it "disregard this line when loading this aircraft".  It's like the old "REM" statement in DOS (I'm really showing how old I am here).

Above is also the order in which the light coordinates appear in the Lights section.  The first number is the light type, the second is the X Axis,  third is Y Axis, and the fourth is the Z Axis.

This way I know which axis is which from looking at the Aircraft.cfg file and modification is a breeze!

I also assigned the keys [Ctrl + Shift + R] to the FS 2004 command to "Reload Player Aircraft".  That way if I have to modify the lights in an aircraft I can [Alt + Tab] out of FS 2004 (leaving FS running in the background), modify the Aircraft.cfg (Save changes), then return to FS 2004.  Unpause then hit [Ctrl + Shift + R].  This will reload the data from the modified Aircraft.cfg and you will immediately see the changes.  This technique saves a lot of time!
