I am trying to get an estimate on Photoshop... I have been wanting it forever and have no idea on the cost.

i asked my Design and Graphics tech teacher today and he said it would run me around 800 bucks.... Shocked Shocked

But i dont think that it would cost nearly that much...and im almost positive ive seen it in walmart for $70      but i have no idea     is Photoshop from Adobe???

Photoshop 7 is $649, upgrades from older version is $129 .

But also can find it at Flash.Corp software for $79, but be sure that you check out the differances. It looks as if the $79 one although called PS7 is mainly for web design???

Also beware of people selling PS8, there isn't one.
Lower price versions are either scaled down versions of the full program, or the upgrades so be sure to know what it is before buying!

There are many good freeware programs out there, Pixa and Gimp come to mind, plus others here probably have suggestions.
I currently use Paint Shop Pro 8, again not cheap but I like it, still haven't figured out half of it yet Grin

Go to ZDNET and look under graphics downloads and you can find many there some free and some shareware, but that is what is nice about shareware, you can try it first before buying to see if it suits you.

My Adobe Photoshop 5 came free with my Digital Camera drivers and my Scanner drivers....and it does the job O.K..... Wink...!
I use Paint Shop Pro 4, which is now free, and contains the EXCELLENT "pspbrowse" program for displaying all the pictures in your folder... 8)...!

I find that the "older" versions of various programs are now "free" and do the job admirably....don't need all the "up-to-date" complications...LOL.... Grin...!
...I love simplicity...and things which are "free"... Smiley...!
LOL...!

Cheers all... Wink...!

Paul.

I use Corel Photohouse 2 imaging and Irfanview for screenshots. Photohouse came free with a big pack of clipart I picked up.

I use one rule of thumb when buying software. I figure that the OS is the most complicated peice of software on your PC. They retail from $100-$200. The rule is, never buy software that costs more than your OS. I know a lot of work goes into these programs but $800 is way too much. You could even get a new computer for that.

I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday. thanks for all the info Wink

i downloaded Pixia awhile back and am just now figuring out some of the things to do... It seems to have quite a few options...

But at vocational school in the mornings i get the advantage of using Photoshop 7      i like it a lot but what i hate is knowing to get all of the effects at home i would probably need 20 different programs.  But i think im going to the link Fozzer supplied and see what i can find Grin
