ok, at the moment i have a VERY weak system, but i wanted to try out flight simulator 2004 any ways, just to see if i would enjoy it. well, as soon as i started playing, i realised that there were no ground textures (ie, grass/mountains) just runways, sky and a few buildings. even though i DO have a very old graphics card, i would have at least expected to see the ground, even if it did look very poor.

any help would be greatly appreciated, and here are my specs:

p4 2.0ghz
512 megs o' ram
radeon 7500 (ugh)
win xp home

Which version of DirectX are you running? And which video drivers?
I'm running a less powerful system and getting great results Wink

I've seen that before a long time back in the forum. I believe it has something to do with the "Fog Emulation Tables". I don't know about your card but check the settings, especially the "Advanced" settings and see if you have a setting for that. If you do enable it.

Oh, and that's not really a weak system. I have an AMD 1.5 Ghz with a 1G RAM. ACOF is playable but with a few things turned down a little. I'd suspect that if you added another stick of RAM you would have a pretty nice system.

I wonder if it could be a problem with the cat 4.8 ati drivers.  I haven't heard of any problems yet, but since they are so new-maybe none have been reported.

Has anyone else been using them?  (I'm still using the 4.7s).

im not quite sure about that, ive tried it with the 4.6 drivers and the new 4.8's and the same problem came up with both.

Hmm, I wonder have you added either the SP1 or SP2 packs to your system?
Just when I tried the SP1 pack my FPS went to ****!
The minute I got rid of it the problem myseriously disappeared. I won't touch the SP2 patch due to my previous experience....

I've seen people post that same problem and it usually comes down to an illegal copy of the game.

really? im pretty sure mine is legit. ???

i actually bought my copy at a smaller computer store (ie, not best buy or anything like that) perhaps i should try returning it and getting it somewhere else? i still kind of doubt that this is the problem though, it looks ok to me.

Isnt an illegal copy of a game exactly that, a copy.

I do own a few pirate games and I have never had any problems with them.

the saoftware being burnt has nothing to do with it. I USED to pirate alot of software, with no hitches.

If the program came with instructions, a case and factory sealed, it is not a pirate copy.

Hey Ozzy I was thinking about not putting SP1 and SP2 on after re-install but what about all the IE probs?

If I didnt have all the hotfixes (Included in SP2) then I start gettin all kinda poop off the internet, even though I have a firewall etc.
