You can fly it without a joystick (using the arrow keys on the number pad with "Num Lock" off) but it's pretty hard. Especially in a combat sim. A simple joystic costs about $15US. A lot of people rave about the Saitek joysticks. They're expensive at $80 but include throttle and rudder controls as well. It's easy for me to spend your money so I recomed shopping around for a good one.
I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday.

I would sterr clear of the Logitech J-sticks as alot of them seem to have calibration problems, and it is a crap shot as to which ones are good and which ones are not. I bought one two month2 or so ago and have returned it 3 times before getting one that works.
If you can find one I would recommend a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro 2. My onld one lasted 4 years and 3 computers before a broken wire knocked it out. I don't think they make them anymore, at least I could not find one when shopping for a new j-stick.

Yes, it seems MS has quit making sticks.
A shame, they were really good. I'm still using an ancient MS FFB Pro I and it still works fine.
