Apologies for raising this subject again but I'm still struggling to find a solution. I hope someone can help me please.
As I understand it to install an AFCAD file you simply put the bgl file in Addon Scenery/scenery. If you then run FS9 it should be there. Then if you go into 'AFCAD Tool' and open the airport you should see a change from 'Stock' airport to 'modified' airport.
My problem is that somewhere along the way I have lost my 'Scenery' file in 'AddonScenery'. I've looked in all the usual places including the 'bin' but no sign of it. I've created a new folder under Addon Scenery and named it scenery, and I've also given this folder a sub folder 'tecture'. No joy! I've added quite a bit of scenery (meshes) in AddonScenery and everything is OK.
Does anyone know if there is a solution to the problem? What is the actual folder structure within the AddonScenery/scenery breakdown. Does the Scenery folder file have any sub-folders for instance.
I am hoping that there is an expert out there who can help please..........

Heya Crocker,

The Addon Scenery folder should start out (with a newly installed FS 2004) with two empty folders.  Scenery and Texture.

There should be no Texture files stored in the Scenery folder, and to my knowledge, scenery designers don't put Texture files in Addon Scenery/Scenery folder.  They go in the Addon Scenery/Texture folder.

I hope that this clears up your question.

Lot's info requested here! Let's start with Lee's Readme file, Section 12.:
"To restore a stock airport or remove a new airport, simply remove the .bgl file for that airport from the FS Addon Scenery folder (  .../FS9/Addon Scenery/Scenery/ ).  If it is a new airport then the airport may continue to be displayed on the Flight Simulator Go To Airport window however, so to eliminate that residual airport listing just call up the Scenery Library window from the FS Settings, and click the OK button to close the window."

this is the folder specified by Lee Swordy who created TTools and AFCAD:
FS9/Addon Scenery/Scenery/

This is where the AF2 files reside for default FS9 installation.

Of course, they can be elsewhere; i.e., in the FS9/Addon Scenery/Scenery/ Subfolder you alluded to. They will all work but DO NOT have duplicates!

How you lost your FS9/Addon Scenery/Scenery/  is beyond me. If this is the case, logic would dictate your FS9 AF2 files are gone as well. I cannot speak to this.

Here's a screen shot of the files in my FS9/Addon Scenery/Scenery/ : ...

p.s. the F1UTxxx.bgl file are my Flight1 Ultimate Traffic AF2, BGLs

Thanks for your replies.
I think I'm going nuts.
This is what I got:

MicrosoftGames/FlightSimulator9/AddonScenery.
In AddonScenery folder I aint got scenery or texture folders.
I have got several folders of scenery I have installed which includes airports and mesh. Some airports have their own scenery and texture sub folders.  For example I loaded Liverpool John Lennon which gave gave me  a folder for the airport and two sub folders namely scenery and texture. This install also gave me a folder FS2002 files with a sub folder called AFCAD and in their was the afcad file for the airport which shows up in AFCAD tool as a modified airport.
Interestingly I have a lonesome folder in AddonScenery called Af2 with nothing in it.
I'm off to get drunk.............

Hoist one for me too, Crocker!

Your second explanation sheds some more light on the issue.  As far as the Scenery Folders you have described (i.e. Liverpool John Lennon), so far, so good!  They're in the right place.  Just go to your Main FS 2004 Startup Menu and click on Scenery Library to activate them.

Now all that you have to do is to go into your MicrosoftGames\FlightSimulator9\AddonScenery Folder and create two new sub-folders -- Scenery and Texture.

As Bill explained above all that you have to do now is Copy/Paste any new AFCAD files that you download and unzip into the new MicrosoftGames\FlightSimulator9\AddonScenery\Scenery Folder.

Hi Graycat

thanks for the additional info. I'm recovering from my binge session, too much booze. that's if you can ever get enough, booze I mean!

Activation of John Lennon airport was no problem at all.

As far as your suggestion goes creating a scenery and texture folder in AddOnScenery, I tried that about two moves ago because I unzipped a whole bunch of AFCAD files and copied/pasted them into the newly created scenery folder. My expectation was then to search for them in the AFCAD tool and these airports whould now come up 'modified' and not 'stock', but they all came up 'stock'.
More booze..................

cheers Crocker

Just in case anyone has the same problem as me and looks at these posts later.

I solved the problem which was probably staring me in the face all the time.

I now have the following file structure:

Addonscenery\Af2\scenery....

What I was failing to do was go into FS9, settings\library and add the new 'scenery folder' as a new scenery layer by highlighting this folder and hitting 'OK', 'OK' in the usual way.

The way that you have done it will work but it's unorthodox and very much not the preferred way.

The 'scenery' subfolder within Addon Scenery is present by default and automatically activated within the sim. Therefore when AFCAD afd files are placed within it they activate automatically with no further action being required.

The 'scenery' sub-folder is also at a low level within scenery.cfg where it should be just above the sim's default files.

AFD files are NOT just like any other scenery files.

If you don't want to use the default 'scenery' sub-folder far better to place the new afd files in the scenery sub-folder of the add-on scenery involved. At least that is reasonably logical. With respect what you've done isn't  Wink
