I like flying different types of aircraft but I run into issues where some people spell the manufacturer name differently so in my aircraft list I'll have Lockhead, Lockhead Martin, Lockhead-Martin etc. Is there a good utility that can be used for managing the names or even having a picture associated with the aircraft for easy reference?

The only way to really do this is open the aircraft.cfg file for the offending aircraft and then look for the line;
ui_manufacturer=Bell
and change it to what you want.

I found a program that reads the aircraft files. then displays all aircraft in it. As you click on each air craft it will let you know if the plane has a unidentified model,airline, or type. Just write them down then go into the offending aircraft cfg files to make the changes the progams is called FSACC or something like that.
Although it will not make the changes for you or allow you to edit the aircraft cfg file with this program even though the option is there for some reason I get an error message when I try, I could be missing a support file though. But I still find this to be a handy little program.

Surely EVERYONE as part of the install process checks the cfg file of every plane they install and changes things like manufacturer's name to match what they have in the file already.......

........ don't they? ???

One of my problems is not knowing what FS sees as a valid airplane type. A example is B747-242 FS says this is a invalid aircraft type. Of course then you have the invalid airline as well an example is NIPPON AIR FS does not recogonize it I had to change it to something else I even downloaded an expanded airlines.txt file. That helped a little.
But I for one do check out the aircraft cfg file the biggest problem I find is unrealistic rate of climb or descent. Who ever heard of a B747 with a climb rate of 500 feet per min.

For me, I have gone into every aircraft.cfg with notepad and edited the manufacture, aircraft type, etc. So that all my Lockheeds are Lockheed and all my Airbus are Airbus, and all my Boeings are Boeings, etc. It makes it much easier to look through the aircraft files when loading in FS9.
