There is an SR-71a here at SimV in military downloads. About page 10 or so I think Budd, you'll just have to start with earliest files and work through, its near the top of the page

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

that one isn't really a good one.
after reading the book 'SR-71 Revealed' (which i can recommend alot), i thought it was about time to have a really good version for FS9 but i think it will be very hard to make...especially the extreme flight characteristics this beast has...not to mention the spikes and doors...for now, i just keep hoping

I'll have to see if I can find that book you mentioned.
I have the SR71 available here. It really doesn't fly "right". It's far too easy to fly. I would expect the real SR71 is a beast of an aircraft. In Kelly Johnson's book "Skunk Works" he describes some characteristics of the plane that simply aren't modeled in the FS aircraft.
I will say however that it's an absolute hoot flying from New England to Florida in under an hour. And 80,000 feet is a cool altitude to cruise at. Do you need to file an IFR flight plan when you're up that high?

the real SR's never filed a plan...only mission ops did it but they certainly didn't mention it was a SR-71. most of the time, they filed a plan with a KC-135Q.
above 60 000ft it was absolute silence. if there was some aicraft in the neighbourhood, it was another SR or a U-2, but they held contact with each other.
this is the book i meant:
http://www.habu.org/graham/sr71revealed.html
i have both his books, but the first one is much better. it describes in every detail how the cockpit looked like, how you had to control the engines, how a mission went by,... a must for every Blackbird fan!!!

I believe they also made use of air force representatives at 'friendly' ATC centres such as the one Rich mentions in his most recent book situated in East Anglia, near Mildenhall to vector other aircraft away/around the SR during takeoff and flight to 60,000. That way the crew could keep their eyes in the cockpit and on the checklists.
