i downloaded a plane package and now the screen is complety black when i try to fly. how do i fix this?

It almost sounds as if you are trying to fly a plane that is meant for AI look in the aircraft folder of fs2002 and find the plane you down loaded open that folder if you see no panel folder this is a AI airplane & if you try to load it you will get a blank screen as there is no panel.
if you do see a panel folder open it and look for the panel.cfg file to see if it has been alaised to a plane that you do not have. This would cause the same effect.
If this is not the case than tell us what plane & where you got it from so we can check it out.

Does your plane package have a panel? This might be something to do with the panel bitmap not being saved in 24-bit. I have been constructing a panel bitmap, but if I use a paint program that doesn't save in 24-bit, then I get a black screen too, with just the gauges showing.

Just a thought.
