Okay, I bought FS 2004 and have been upgrading the computer to run that. I had 2002 running nicely off the onboard crappy video and 2004 wouldn't go at all.

I installed my ATE 9800 pro SE  card, but the drivers wouldn't work. When I went to the website to get new drivers, I found that it just wouldn't go on win98 so I updated to Win2000pro , but I had to do the SP4 download (2+ hours on dialup). THEN I could get the drivers.

All that worked great! FS2004 had to be uninstalled and reinstalled but its fabulous.

NOW 2002 won't work. Splashpage and crash to desktop. I checked something or other in Notepad and it Looks like it still points to the onboard graphics. If I hadn't sold the disks, I would simply reload it.

Is there a way to get 2002 to recognize the new stuff, or is it a lost cause? The new OS complicates matters. Other programs (Need for Speed for example) had to be uninstalled before the OS upgrade.

Any help would be appreciated.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there is no way other than to reinstall fs2002. Windows 2000 is completly differnet from windows 98 it even uses a different file system than 98 did. The only way you can get fs2002 to run tis to uninstall and reinstall as you did for fs2004. Sorry about that Sad
One other note if you have any recover or system restore cd's they will no longer work without changing the file system back to FAT32. I strongly urge that you learn how to make system restore points so you can reset your system if needed. Just read the book that came with the update and it should tell you how  8)

Yeah I've already resigned myself to having to repurchase 2002. The good news is a brand new copy is going for about $15 on ebay, when originally was $50.

I didn't upgrade the file system to NFTS or whatever it's called. It asked and I wasn't sure I wanted to fully commit that drive. So It may not be as secure (not on the internet) or have the file compression (don't know that I've EVER used it). Those seem to be the major advantages of converting th efiles system.

Oh, and further update, I had 2004 running well, but the PSU fried the next morning. Now I'm waiting on my 500 watt monster to arrive maybe Wednesday.

Meanwhile, I'm worse off than when I started. I still have FS 2000PRO on my laptop and although it's a PIII 700 it does pretty decent frame rates.

Thanks for your reply.

The NTFS file system is NEW TECHNOLOGY FILE SYSTEM I
would recomend that you use it. It allows access to large hard drives that the old fat32 system can not access.
