Beechcraft 1900D Air File.. (Read 196 times)

Was fiddling with the above and noticed it is actually written for the Beechcraft King Air 350.....not the 1900D.    This is the Mike Stone version.

Can someone check theirs for me - perhaps in my fiddling I have transposed an air file across, I think at some stage I may have had a King Air 350.    It is also possible (probable) that the specs are much the same...

The reason I ask is that the plane seems to fly too well for its size, somewhat like a Cessna instead of a small airliner.

Also I notice that the undercarriage doesn't quite withdraw, leaving a small section of wheel/tyre still on view - is this normal.?

The undercarriage not fully withdrawing is built into the model, nothing you can do without the source file. Tongue However, these days the air file doesn't tell FS a whole lot. You can overwrite pretty much everything the aircraft.cfg file; engine specs, landing gear, size, shape, controls, airspeeds, flaps, etc. etc. If you are worried about it using default 350 stuff with perhaps only the gear rearranged so it sits right on the ground (does it?) then just open both it's and the KA350s aircraft.cfg files and compare random things. Gear locations, flaps settings, engine power and torque. etc. etc.

If the speeds seem good, flaps seem right, and all that it is correct more than likely. Most turboprops I have flown have somewhat of that performance-driven sports car feel.

Pilot for a major US airline certified in the: EMB-120, CRJ, 727, 737, 757, 767, and A-320 and military, T-38, C-130, C-141, and C-5 along with misc. other small airplanes. Any questions, I'm here for you.

Gotcha  -  thanks for that.........

Unfortunately I no longer have the King Air, must have pruned it.   I can't really see how I could have ended up with the wrong Air file and suggest it is probably the correct one - hence my request for someone with the 1900D to check theirs for me.

I hadn't considered the Air file aspect of the under-carriage settings.     They lower and raise OK, I quess I'll need to surf and locate a shot of the real deal in flight to see whether or not they are intended to protrude slightly.

This type of thing is the reason why FS gets a poor rating in the flight dynamics department compared to X-plane, developers that don't care about the flight dynamics to make proper ones. That is why I'm here  Grin I make proper and realistic flight dynamics and I'll have some e-mailed to you in a few days if you'd like.

&&&&That's right, I'm now using an AMD! I decided to give them another try and they kicked the pants off of my P4 3.4!

With all due respect chomp_rock, M$ FS has sod-all to do with aerodynamics and is ALL about faking it to look good.
Mike Stone, bless him, makes lovely, realistic, framerate-friendly aircraft and personally, I just love the extra work involved in making them appear to fly properly.   Wink

Getting back to my original theme :

I would just like someone (out of the thousands out there) who has the Mike Stone 1900D Beechcraft, to check the Air file for me.    Is there a specific one for 1900D, or has the Beechcraft King Air file been used ?

Bazza,

The answer is quite simple; as Gnome said, Mike does a great job in making fps-friendly, realistic looking aircraft, often filling the niche that everybody seems to miss - as he will freely admit that he is no airfile expert, so he usually uses a stock MS airfile (in this case the King Air 350).  We have to make sure all those airfile experts have something to do!!!

Thanks Andy, my post was never intended as a "critique" of anyone's work - Mike Stone's work is all thru my downloads.

I just felt, and still do, that this plane was too lively for it's type - I watch them in and out of my local airfield daily.   There was a possibility that I had stuffed up the air-files - however you have clarified that.   Back to the drawing board - I now have another air-file to try.
